January 2015 Media Information NEW HONDA JAZZ: DESIGN AND PACKAGING Contemporary appeal meets versatile utility Fresh, assertive style reflects dynamic capability Streamlined profile showcases aerodynamic efficiency Compact, agile shape offers enhanced interior room Magic Seat ensures generous cargo space and versatile loading options The new Honda Jazz is a real eye-catcher, thanks to an exterior design that focuses as much on a timeless and contemporary design as it does on efficient space utilisation and compact, agile dimensions. The result is the best of both worlds, a car that links edgy, aspirational design while also maximising interior space for both occupants and cargo. The front view is dominated by a new, powerful grille design, with a prominent Honda badge in the centre. It’s flanked on either side by slim, tapered headlights. A chromed garnish strip highlights the grille’s V-shaped design, which also serves to emphasise the car’s streamlined shape. A large lower air intake and low-mounted recesses on either side add a touch of aggression. The short, wide bonnet’s angle seamlessly integrates with the rake of the large windscreen, while slim A-pillars enhance the smooth, aerodynamic lines of the frontal design. Large front quarter glass surfaces on either side ensure unencumbered visibility from the cockpit. In profile, the smooth, sloping roofline of the Jazz adds further credence to its windcheating aerodynamics, while the sculpted flanks and deep, chiselled character lines emphasise the slender, wedged shape of the hatchback. The rear treatment also reflects the stronger, more incisive design language of this latest Jazz. The pronounced, angular LED tail light clusters are coupled to the etched character line, while the tailgate opens all the way down to the integrated bumper. The new Jazz boasts a longer wheelbase that has grown by 35 mm from 2 495 mm to 2 530 mm. Width and height have remained almost identical, giving the impression of a lower, wider, sportier car than before. The new Jazz is fitted with 15-inch wheels, with the exception of the Dynamic, which comes standard with 16-inch wheels. Front fog lamps are standard on the Elegance and Dynamic models. Hill Start assist is available on the Comfort CVT, all Elegance and Dynamic variants. Intelligent packaging Despite its sportier exterior appearance, the new Jazz is even roomier than before. The intelligent packaging concept which has been at the core of the innovative hatchback’s spacious and versatile interior has been further improved. As before, the fuel tank is still located in the middle of the car, thus allowing the use of Honda’s innovative Magic Seat system, while also raising the position of the rear seat to improve visibility. The fuel tank has a lower profile, thus boosting available interior space. Other factors contributing to the increase in overall interior space is a more compact engine bay, a more efficient rear suspension layout, and a new rear wheel arch design. Compared to the previous Jazz, legroom has increased and the cargo capacity with rear seat in the upright position is now a generous 363 litres, with 881 litres available with the seats down. The Magic Seats can be configured in a number of different ways to accommodate a variety of tall and long objects. The rear seatback is split 60:40 to offer both seating and extended cargo space, while easy-to-use levers control the position of the Magic Seats. With the rear seats folded flat, cargo space increases to an impressive 881 litres, a flat floor and vertical sides allows maximum use of the space on offer. In Tall Mode, the Magic Seat makes it easy to accommodate upright objects, allowing a floor-toroof space of more than 1,2 metres. In this mode, two mountain bikes with their front wheels removed can be transported upright simultaneously. Long Mode allows extended-length objects such as stepladders, surfboards or timber to be transported with ease by folding down both the rear seats and the front passenger seat. In this mode, objects of up to 2,4 metres can be transported with ease. ends For more information, contact: Joeline Dabrowski Manager – PR & Events Direct Tel: (+)27 (0)11-058-1177 Fax: (+)27 (0)11-058-1200 Email: joeline.dabrowski@honda-eu.com Honda Motor Southern Africa PO Box 7179 Halfway House 1685 Tel: +27 11 058-1100 Fax: +27 11 058-1200 www.honda.co.za
