Characteristics of a Memoir








A memory: description of an event from the past
(Brainstorm list)
Written in “first person” (what is first person?)
Told from one person’s point of view (perspective)
Based on the truth, or a real event
Reveals the feelings of the writer
Has meaning; shows what the author learned from the experience
Focused on one event; takes place at one point in the author’s life
About the author’s experience more than about the event (what does this mean?)


