Between February and November 2011 increased annual sales in excess of 20%. Prepared Strategic Review of the business at Directors request. By 2008 built sales to £450,000 with four staff including myself. Built a new agent network which accounted for 60% of total sales. Resurrected my previous supplier base and contacts in the Far East. Reason for Leaving – Due to a reduction in marketing budgets because of the recession and a decline in sales of 20% per annum in 2009 and 2010 I was left with no alternative but to close the business. 1974 – 2005 Chief Executive Martin Shelton Group PLC, Leeds A manufacturing Company specialising in the supply of print and consumables to Licensed Betting Offices, Promotional Calendars, Diaries, Gifts and High Quality Small Leathergoods. In 1992 acquired PMS a manufacturer of personal organisers and subsequently merged this with the Leathergoods division. With the help of two small acquisitions and organic growth built sales upto £5,000,000 with profits of around £600,000 by the early 1990’s. In 1990 I acquired Daines & Hathaway a manufacturer of small high quality leathergoods based in Walsall. In 1988 I negotiated and subsequently acquired Coleprint Ltd a manufacturer of NCR sets based in Northamptonshire which increased our market share to the Licensed Betting Office trade. This division was later merged with our Leeds manufacturing site. In 1988 with the help of the Sales Director I recruited a salesforce which gave us greater control of our sales resource, as prior to this sales had been procured through agents and distributors. By 1987 sales had grown to £1,600,000 with nett profit of £300,000 and I decided to float the business on the USM ( Unlisted Securities Market ) now AIM to fund strategic growth. Sales by 1983 had reached in excess of £1,000,000 and the business had outgrown the existing premises. I therefore negotiated and purchased larger more modern premises and relocated the business. Left school in 1974 to join the family business with a view to learning the business and subsequently succeeding my father the owner and Managing Director of the business.
