Your speech is to be informative in nature; you are using FACTS to INFORM the class about the topic you have selected. You will need to have at least THREE SOURCES cited in your manuscript which you will write after you have collected your research. You can have more than three if you’d like. You will create a Works Cited page for your research. Use www.knightcite.com to help format the Works Cited document. This is a separate page; it will go at the end of your manuscript and helps you avoid plagiarism. Please pay attention during the instructions on this…this is how people mess up. Day Four: Manuscript You will present this speech in manuscript format (written out like a paper and then presented to the class). Your manuscript is to be a TYPED document. Double space your paper for easier reading. This paper is not as technical as you as a research paper, you write it using your own voice supported by facts from research. There is not a length requirement for this paper… there is a TIME requirement. Your speech will be 5 to 7 minutes. You will need to write your paper and then time yourself to know if you have completed the length requirement. Day Five: Manuscript Continue writing your manuscript. Be sure to include THREE SOURCES. To do this you MUST state the cite in your paper and in your Works Cited page where the information you are using is coming from. You will use phrases such as… The following information was found in ____… According to ____… The author of ____… The website, _____, stated that… In the article____… By the end of today you should have the majority of your manuscript written! Day Six: Manuscript, Proof Reading, Timing, Practicing Put the finishing touches on your manuscript today. You should have a completed manuscript ½ way through the hour. The second half of the hour should be used as practice time with a partner. You should have your manuscript proof read by a partner then work on practicing and timing your speech. REMEMBER YOU ARE NOT JUST READING YOUR PAPER TO THE CLASS. YOU ARE PRESENTING- You do not need to have it memorized but you DO have to use eye contact and an appropriate voice. Your Homework- PRACTICE… PRACTICE… PRACTICE! Day Seven: Presentations Manuscripts and outlines will be checked for an on time grade. There is NO excuse for not having this assignment completed by the due date. If you are absent on any day you need to continue working on this at home. No late work accepted on this assignment. Helpful Reminders: Your Goal: Inform the class on your topic You are turning in the following: Brainstorming Concept Map, Outline, Manuscript & Works Cited page. Time Requirements: 5 to 7 Minutes Sources: You must have at least three included in the manuscript Fully cite the sources on the Works Cited page
