Commemorative Speech You will write a manuscript that you will read to the class. It will be a commemorative speech, honoring one REAL person (that you personally know/knew) which deals with one SPECIFIC characteristic of him/her! Manuscript Delivery (written out word for word, and read from script) 2-3 minutes EXACTLY (You’ll be reading from a manuscript!) Preparation/Writing It should be well-crafted – with effective figures of speech: personification, alliteration, similes/metaphors, parallel structure … We will only hear this once! (Don’t get too deep or florid!) Avoid/Eliminate GENERIC LANGUAGE /Clichés Use SPECIFIC, emotional, practical, real examples/stories Remember as you’re writing/crafting this speech: “Good You Get – Great You Create!” SCORING: (15) Effective Introduction (PARFM to THESIS) (20) ONE Topic with SPECIFIC EXAMPLES Effective DELIVERY (10) accurate expression (facial and verbal) (10) accurate interpretation (pauses, emphasis, etc.) (10) eye contact (10) “Crafting” Quality (15) Effective Conclusion (Review to LARFM) Don’t Rush and/or Fade Away!
