Warm Up!
How many bones make
up the adult skeleton?
Where are the tiniest
bones in the skeleton
located?
What is the largest bone
in the body?
Bones of the Skull:
There are 8 immovable
bones called cranial
bones. They form the
casing that surrounds
the brain.
Cranial Bones are
joined together along
zigzag lines called
Sutures.
The three tiny bones located
in the middle ear that
transmit sound vibrations
are the Anvil, Hammer, and
Stirrup.
Facial Bones:
14 of them form the face
13 of the bones are
interlocking and
th
immovable and the 14
bone is the mandible.
Hyoid Bone located at the base of
the tongue for support.

Vertebrae
Spinal Column
- consists of 24 separate
bones called vertebrae.
The first two vertebrae
that forms your neck in
the Cervical region on
which your head pivots
on are called:
1. Atlas
2. Axis
What is this
suppose to
represent?
- A joint…
Joints:
- allow for movement to
occur
The ends of some
bones are covered with:
- thin membranes
- cushioned with layers
or pads of cartilage
Ligaments:
They bind bones
together to form a
sheath , or capsule,
enclosing the movable
joint.
Joint Capsule:
It is lined with a
membrane, and the
membrane secretes a
fluid called
Synovial Fluid.
Synovial Fluid -
It is a lubricating fluid
for the joint.
Class Activity:
You and your
partner will
complete the
worksheet –
“Joint
Classifications,
Types, and
locations.”
Rules for Activity
- Work quietly!
- Stay on task.
- Complete the worksheet.
- Although you are working
together, each one must
write their own answers.
3 Basic Classifications:
1. Freely Moveable
Joints
2. Partially Immovable
Joints
3. Immovable Joints
Facts:
The more freedom of
movement within a joint
the less stability it has.
- Reduced or limited
movement means
increased stability and
support.
