GHS Soccer Booster Club Meeting minutes
For October 20, 2014
Roger Kidwell-Meeting called to order at 6:33pm. Asked for all to be sure and
sign in. Be sure and put players name and details so that we can keep you updated
with emails. Reminder of website address. Check it often for updates. Motion made
for minutes from previous meeting to be approved. Motion made, seconded and
approved.
Kyla Elston- Update on finances, two checks have cleared in the last month both
for internet. $20,967.38 in account currently. Motion for financial report to be
added, seconded and approved.
Coach Kidd- has boys schedule, brought copies if parents want to take one. All
athletic programs participate in an all day team building event. Speaker is flown in
and all sports but football participate. He has brought brochures for parents. It is
this coming Wednesday, 730pm at the PAC. Brochures will be handed out to team
tomorrow.
Georgetown will be hosting the State Tourney this year. Tournament will be bigger
due to four classifications rather than three. Will need lots of help and will be a big
deal. We beat out San Antonio, Round Rock and possibly Houston for the tourney.
Not sure how long the contract will last. Being able to seclude the persons of UIL
from outsiders is a big factor in us getting the tourney in Coach Kidd’s opinion. Plus
they are treated well.
Team is starting this week to play with the ball more and in the weight room two
days a week. When November hits the season starts with full practices. He is
encouraged to get started and form the teams. Team will be vastly different from
last year.
Roger Kidwell- Meet the Eagles will be Saturday, January 3rd. Boys team will be
in San Antonio that day with a game at 1:30pm but they will hustle back to make it.
Discussions of different dates and nothing suitable as January 3rd. Motion made for
approval, seconded and passed for January 3rd.
Anne Hoffa- program will be sold at Spaghetti dinner and at games. There will be
two programs this year, one for our games and one for tourneys. Hoping to do a blitz
with the boys and girls going out to sell ads to various businesses.
Shannon Ford- Businesses love to advertise in the program and the
advertisement is cheap. We want to send the kids out in groups to sell, businesses
like to see that and it helps with sells.
Julie Kidwell- will be selling hoodies, long sleeve dry fit shirts and yard signs this
year. Also, we will sale digital files for individual pictures. This makes more money
than selling buttons. Looking to sell possible more items with the Georgetown logo
gloves, scarfs, portable chargers and blankets.
Sam McCutchen- Girls soccer has finalized bracket for Governors Cup. Only have
27 teams this year versus 28 so we will be inserting our JV into that slot. He will let
the girls choose their games times. We are locked into The Woodlands tourney. He
has 12 additional rooms reserved for parents. We will have three games, one on
Thursday, one on Friday and one on Saturday. These should be a good snapshot of
our region and what we could face in the playoffs.
Tryouts will be the Mon, Tues and Wed after Thanksgiving. These will be an
assessment of basic athleticism and soccer skills. Only two coming from another
period to the soccer period after their sports have completed.
They are working on a player committee at this time, captains and upper
representative, lower representative, a social coordinator and a chaplain. Those
interested in these positions made presentations today to share their vision for the
team in a leadership role. Team will vote tomorrow. He will be sitting down with all
players to discuss where and how they stand on the team after tryouts. He will need
parental help with encouragement, mostly younger players.
Trainers are busy after school with football, volleyball and cross-country. Our
players need to be here between 730am and 830am if they need treatment. We have
to have them cleared before they can workout which will require them finishing
protocol set by the trainers. Hot button right now with head injuries, currently have
7 players with these issues. He has been working on proper heading techniques. He
does focus on this and tries to use best practices at all times.
If you have questions or issues please email or call him first. He cannot read minds
and needs those with problems need to express themselves.
Impact testing was done last Tuesday for all freshman and juniors and anyone new
to the program. Program is not perfect but does help.
Roger Kidwell- looking to do some upgrades for the locker rooms. Mostly the
girl’s locker room is in need of renovations. Boy’s locker room in need of just a few
items. This will take a lot of help with raising money and labor.
Looking at possible silent auction changes this year. Possibly have each player be
responsible for a basket to be auctioned off. After some discussion may narrow this
down to a certain class providing baskets. Coach Kidd also mentioned that they used
to have seniors make cakes and they were auctioned off at the spaghetti dinner. This
used to be a big money maker.
All players that attended stood and introduced themselves.
Meeting called to close by Roger Kidwell at 7:41pm.
