Course Description:
Minimum grade of C in MAC 2311. Designed to prepare students majoring in engineering, mathematics,
natural sciences or behavioral sciences which require matrix techniques. Includes matrix algebra,
determinants systems of linear equations, eigenvectors, and special matrices. Gordon Rule course.
Minimum grade of C required if MAS 2103 is used to satisfy Gordon Rule and general education
requirements
Educational Materials:
Elementary Linear By Howard Anton. 10th Edition
Attendance:
Regular attendance and class participation are significant factors that promote success in this course.
Students are expected to attend every class and be punctual. Students are responsible for all class
materials and any announcement made in class whether or not you are present. Students may be
withdrawn if they miss more than 4 class meetings.
WITHDRAWAL:
Per Valencia Policy 4-07 (Academic Progress, Course Attendance and Grades, and Withdrawals), a student
who withdraws from class before the established deadline for a particular term will receive a grade of
“W”. A student is not permitted to withdraw after the withdrawal deadline of July 1, 2011. A faculty
member MAY withdraw a student up to the beginning of the final exam period for violation of the class
attendance policy. A student who is withdrawn by faculty for violation of the class attendance policy will
receive a grade of “W”. Any student who withdraws or is withdrawn from a class during a third or
subsequent attempt in the same course will be assigned a grade of “F”. For a complete policy and
procedure overview on Valencia Policy 4-07 please go to:
http://valenciacc.edu/generalcounsel/policydetail.cfm?RecordID=75.
Homework
Homework problems will be assigned at the end of each class meeting. Completion of homework is crucial
to the student’s success in this course. To be successful in the class it is important to spend considerable
amount of time working the homework assignment before attending the next class period. Failure to do
so will result in you falling behind. It is highly suggested that you discuss ideas and homework with other
students. Homework will not be collected for grades, but will be discussed in class to go over students’
mistakes and to help them with the questions that they couldn’t solve.
Evaluation (Tests, final test and quizzes)
There will be 3 in class tests and a comprehensive final. All tests are comprehensive with emphasis of the
most recently completed material. There will be quizzes. The final grade will be assigned as follows:
- 3 Tests –100 points each (total of 300 points)
- Final test (Comprehensive) – 100 points
- Quizzes – 100 points
Percentage of total points cumulated
90% - 100%
80% - 89%:
70 % - 79%
60% - 69%
59% or less
Grade

Make-up
No make-up test will be given. If a (one) test is missed because of an accepted reason such as a medical
emergency (subject to instructor’s approval), your final exam grade will be used in place of the missed test
score. Otherwise, no test’s score replaces no other test’s score.
