Job Description









Receives patients, makes a quick assessment, institutes initial emergency care as
needed, and notifies the duty physician at the ER
Enters identifying and other pertinent patient data in the logbook and reminds
duty physician to complete clinical data of patients.
Prepares equipment, instruments and supplies needed in the care of ER patients.
Carries out nursing chores as ordered by physicians such as venoclysis,
administration of medications, oxygen inhalation, nebulization, suctioning
secretions, placing of indwelling catheter,etc.
Operates various ER equipments like the ECG, pulse oximeter, etc.
Assists the physician in the repair of lacerations, orthopedic manipulations, and
other procedures.
Sutures minor and non-facial lacerations as ordered and supervised by physicians.
Monitors vital signs, does or supervises the giving of tepid sponge bath.
Assists the Nursing Supervisor in assessing and prioritizing care of patients
whether they are emergency cases or non-emergency cases.









Assists the ER Midwife when they need help.
Assists the Ambulance Nurse in the preparations needed in the conduction of ER
patients.
Supervises the ER Nursing Attendant in the performance of his tasks.
Accomplishes the pertinent data in the Admission-Discharge Form.
Endorses admitted patients to the corresponding nursing service after duly
carrying out ER Doctor’s Orders and writing down the Nurses’ Remarks.
Notifies the Nurse Supervisor of the need for ER medicines and supplies, repair
instruments and equipment, and reportable incidences.
Accompanies seriously ill or injured patients to and from the ER.
Coordinates with other hospital personnel for mutual concerns.
Endorses work and resources to incoming duty personnel.

Job Description



















Check and maintain the quota for non-sterile as well as sterile supplies to be used
daily in the assigned area.
Check and maintain the quota for paper forms and other office supplies needed in
the performance of duties.
Listen to the endorsement for individual patient so as to familiarize myself with
diagnosis, the treatment in progress and further needs required.
Participate in rounds at the beginning of each shift so as to assess individual
patient’s condition and progress of recovery and to provide an adequate Health
Care Plan.
Administer oxygen therapy when needed.
Monitor and record vital signs of individual patient.
Provide inhalation therapy.
Prepare patient for surgery and upon return from Recovery Room and monitor
vital signs until condition stabilizes.
Prepare patient for laboratory studies, radiology studies, ECG and spinal tap
procedures.
Instruct and prepare specimen for laboratory studies.
Check and change dressings as indicated.
Carry out physician’s orders.
Order change for, to dispense all drugs to be prescribed. Return all unused and
unopened drugs to the pharmacy for patients refund.
Assist the doctor with the insertion of levine tube for drainage, lavage or gavage
procedures.
Prepare and insert foley catheters under sterile condition.
Prepare and administer all types of enemas.
Carry out procedure for patient’s discharge.
Provide health teachings to patient and family upon discharge.
Maintain a complete and up to date patient records at all times.
