Ancient Mayans By Tristan Navajo Geography The mayan civilization began in 2,600 b.c and lived around present day Mexico,Guatemala, northern Belize,and western Honduras.By 250 b.c the ancient Maya were at the peak of power. The Mayans had no king ruling their huge empire instead they had 20 separate areas. Mayan Religion The Mayan religion was a pantheon nature of gods, each of which had a both benevolent side and a malevolent side.The most important deity was the supreme god Itzamna. the creator God, the God of fire and God of earth. Achievements The Mayans were experts at astronomy and knew when a solar eclipse would take place. They were also experts at growing crops and grew vegetables in unfavorable places. Political System The political system in the Mayan civilization is they had rulers and a ruling class. Their political system was complex. Their kings were powerful and claimed to be descended from Gods and the planets. Economics The economics in the Mayan civilization was more of a trading civilization. The Mayans were experts in agriculture.In ancient Maya they mostly ate vegetables and fruits not much meat. They did eat some fish. Social Structure Ancient Mayans had four social classes. The four classes are:nobles, priests, commoners-farmers, craftsmen, and slaves.
