ARE YOU READY TO TAKE YOUR LEADERSHIP SKILLS TO A NEW LEVEL?
CCASTD’s Nominating Committee is soliciting nominations for next year’s (2014) board positions. Descriptions of each
position are listed below. Each vice-president position is eligible for position sharing as a Co-VP. You may identify a coVP candidate and run together, or ask us to find a co-VP candidate for you.

(This list is not all inclusive but represents the major responsibilities)
One-year Term (+ mentoring: 3 months pre-term / 3 months post- term for next incumbent)

President Elect
 Performs all the duties of the president in the absence of the latter
at all business meetings.
 May be assigned other duties by the president.
 Assumes the president’s responsibilities if the president is unable
to serve.
 With the approval of the board of directors, the president-elect is
automatically nominated to become the chapter’s president in the
following year.
 Aligns with president as chief liaison to management company.
Note: To apply for President-elect, you must currently serve or have
previously served on the board.
Vice-President of
Marketing
 Develops overall marketing plan for various programs / activities.
 Uses multiple delivery methods to publicize upcoming events.
 Serves as the point-of-contact for any media inquiries.
8 – 10 hours
Vice-President of
Programming
 With the president’s yearly focus, identifies topics /speakers for all
chapter programming events.
 Aligns topics with ASTD’s Competency Model to ensure cohesiveness.
 Plans, coordinates / oversees all chapter programming events.
 Negotiates contracts with external speakers / meeting venues.
10 – 12 hours
Vice-President of
Membership
 Develops strategies to increase and retain membership. Periodically
assesses chapter members’ needs and satisfaction levels,
recommending appropriate changes.
 Invites chapter members to participate fully in the chapter.
8 – 10 hours
Vice-President of
Communication
(Secretary)
 Serves as the official correspondent of the chapter.
 Record and disseminates accurate notes and attendance at all
board of directors meetings.
 With VP Finance -oversees legal business of the chapter.
5 – 8 hours
Vice-President of
Finance (Treasurer)
 Maintains the chapters’ books, including the receipt, disbursement,
and maintenance of all chapter monies.
 Analyses / Reports chapter’s financial condition at board meetings.
 Oversees legal business of the chapter.
 Coordinates financial reporting with management company monthly.

What You Can Expect From Us…
Board members are typically highly motivated, energized and passionate individuals who want to
contribute at a higher level in the Workplace Learning and Performance field and to the CCASTD
organization.
You can expect to receive onboarding assistance to help you navigate your first months as a board
member. You can also expect to receive training and mentoring from the incumbent board member, if
available. Lastly, incumbent board members keep and update their position file to transfer to you upon
election.
You are NEVER alone through this journey!
What We Expect From You…
The following is a partial list of expectations for all individual board members:










Current membership in ASTD (available at a discounted rate for board members).
Current membership in CCASTD.
Attendance at a minimum of 75% of all board meetings (either in person or by conference call).
Attendance at year-end transition meeting and mid-year retreat.
Submission of an annual budget for program area and the review of monthly CCASTD financial
statements.
Submission of updates for role-relevant content on the CCASTD website (ccastd.org).
Service as a representative of CCASTD at monthly programs and special events whenever possible.
Maintenance and updating of records relevant to your position for the benefit of your successor.
Active involvement with the current incumbent of your upcoming role in the board position prior to
beginning your term.
Actively developing and mentoring upcoming successor(s) in duties during the transition period of
the next term of office.
