• Cells are the smallest living things
• Bacteria are made of single cells
• They can reproduce very quickly
• We are made of millions of cells
• These include; red and white blood cells, nerve cells, skin cells hair cells
• All animal cells have 3 parts:
1. The nucleus (controls the cell)
2. Cell Membrane (a skin around the cell)
3. The Cytoplasm (everything else inside the cell)
• All plant cells have six parts;
1. The nucleus, cell membrane and cytoplasm
2. The cell wall (protects the cell)
3. Chloroplasts (for photosynthesis)
4. The Vacuole (stores water)
• We are multi-cellular so we need specialized cells
Red blood cells
• Red Blood cells have no nucleus and a large surface area to pack in Oxygen
• Nerve Cells are long, with connections at either
End to pass on electrical impulses
Nerve cell
• Eggs cells are large , with lots of cytoplasm for food
• Sperm Cells have a tail that allows them to swim
• Root Hair cells have a large surface area to absorb lots of water
• Leaf Cells have a large surface area to absorb sunlight
• They have chloroplasts to photosynthesize
• We are so large that we need lots of cells dedicated to getting Oxygen into us
• Lungs cells are specialized and work with other lung cells to pass Oxygen to Red
Blood Cells
• A collection of lung cells make up lung tissue
• The whole lung is an organ
• The Heart is made up of heart cells and tissue
• The Lungs are organs
• The Brain
• The Stomach
• Skin
• In plants the leaf and roots are organs
• The organs work together in systems
• The circulatory system sends blood around the body
• It includes the heart, arteries, veins and capillaries
• The respiratory system passes gases to the blood
• This includes the lungs, red blood cells and blood vessels
• The Nervous System
• Is made up of nerves, muscles, the spinal cord and brain
• The Digestive System
• Is made up of the mouth, teeth, food pipe
(oesophagus), stomach, small intestine
• The Reproductive System
• What are these cells;
A= Red Blood Cells
B= A Nerve Cell
C= A Sperm Cell
D= A Root Cell
