The Selinsgrove Elementary School, parents of students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the No
Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), and participating children agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.
School Responsibilities - We, as a school, will support our students’ learning in the following ways:
1.
Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows:
As curriculum maps are developed, they will be provided to all parents. Maps will be aligned with state standards
Provide students with research based resources and instructional strategies
Provide highly qualified teachers for core curriculum instruction and additional teachers specializing in intervention instruction
2.
Hold parent-teacher conferences during which the compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement. Specifically, those conferences will be held:
In the fall at parent-teacher conference
Whenever a parent wishes for a conference with a teacher
3.
Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress. Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows:
At the end of each nine weeks (reports cards)
Grades are available daily for parents online to view with utilization of private passwords
Letters will be sent to all parents whose students will begin Tier 2 or 3 interventions and to all parents whose students moved from Tier 2 or 3 to Tier 1
Monthly newsletters and PTSO minutes are distributed with information related to the school’s operation, programming, and activities
The monthly newsletter and the PTSO minutes from each meeting are available to everyone via the school’s website
4.
Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows:
Before and after school
Parents may set up an appointment to discuss their child’s progress at any time throughout the school year
Parents are provided the e-mail addresses of all their child’s teachers
5.
Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities as follows:
P.T.S.O (Parent-Teacher-Student Organization)
Classroom helpers
Special activities helpers
Trainings to assist parents help their children to succeed in school (ie. Literacy & Math
Nights)
Attempt to provide childcare for parents to participate in school events
Parent Responsibilities - We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:
Provide a safe and healthy home environment that encourages learning
Encourage positive attitude towards school and following school rules and regulations
Participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my child’s education by attending parentteacher conferences, meetings, and school events as often as possible
Stay informed about my child’s education and communicating with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school or school district either received by my child or by mail, and responding as appropriate
Keep the school up to date with contact information and situations that may impact my child’s behavior or learning
Address problems or concerns to person involved and refer to the principal if not resolved
Ensure regular school attendance by setting a reasonable bed time
Monitor amount of television watched and video games played and encourage physical activity
Furnish a quiet, well-equipped place to do homework and be available to help when needed
Be involved with the PTSO, since the PTSO serves as the Title One Parent Advisory Council, and to volunteer to help at school activities
Volunteer in my child’s classroom or school when possible
Student Responsibilities - We, as students, will share the responsibility to improve our academic achievement and achieve the State’s high standards. Specifically, we will:
Attend school every day, unless ill, and do our best work
Obey school rules and take care of school property
Complete and return homework every day and ask for help if needed
Read outside of school time
Give my parents/guardians all notices and information received by me from my school every day
Keep this copy at home and display it as a reminder of this agreement
