Falsely Accused Essay/Project
Directions: Research and write about a person who has been wrongly convicted and later acquitted of a crime.
Part One: Prepare a 3-5 minute PowerPoint or Prezi. Your presentation must include photographs and/or video (no
more than 90 seconds in length) and should include the following:
 Slide One: Your Name and a Title
 Slide Two: Brief background of the case (This may be two slides, if needed)
 Slide Three: Excerpts from the case (quotes or paraphrased dialogue)
 Slide Four: Describe what happened in the end
 Slide Five: Where are they now? (If your person was executed, talk about family or legislation changes)
 Slide Six: An MLA-formatted Works Cited page with a minimum of three valid sources
Part Two: Write a minimum 800-word informational essay that includes the following:
 A brief overview of the case-background information
 What went wrong?
 Who is to blame? (Example: false witness testimony, corrupt police interrogation, media bias, etc.)
 How long did they spend in prison? Where they executed?
 Who helped them?
 Where is the person now?
 What sort of restitution, if any, was made?
Your paper must include the following:
 MLA formatting, including page numbers
 Parenthetical citations (at least 3 quotes/paraphrased material from 3 different sources in your paper)
 Annotated Bibliography (minimum 3 sources) (You do not need a Works Cited AND Annotated Bibliography;
they are the same thing)
