3-D Design Class Syllabus 1 Trimester-1/2 credit I. GOALS A. To understand the history and significance of three dimensional design. B. To develop an awareness ofthree dimensional design, and gain an understanding how it is created in space. C. To develop skills of using tool to create and complete textural surfaces of sculpture. D. To build a vocabulary of concepts and language necessary to the study of sculpture and to encourage the written expression of the creative process. E. To develop the ability to critique and reflect about art, either ones own or that produced by someone else, or the class. II. UNITS OF STUDY A. Introduction and History of Three Dimensional Design 2 Class periods B. Design and create maquettes of 3 specific sculptural structures 5 Class periods. C. Linear Sculpture 14 class periods D. Planar surface Sculpture 14 class periods E. Biomorphic Sculpture 14 class periods F. Assemblage Free Project G. Critiques throughout the trimester 8 Class periods III. Essential Information and Expectations A. GRADING 1. The marking period will include 3 projects worth 300 points each. Projects will be completed in a timely manner. Projects not completed by the due date will begin loosing 6 pts daily. Projects not turned in by the final turn-in date (a two week span) will be given a 0. 2. A rubric will be provided before each project is assigned so the student will be able to review the project requirements, add notes for their personal reflection, and monitor targets to insure optimum point values. 3. The marking period will also include in-class assignments worth 50 points each. 4. In-class assignments are designed to be completed in 1class period. If the student is not finished by the end of the hour, the work must be completed by the beginning of the next class period. If the assignment is incomplete, 0 points will be given and an after school lab will be issued to make up for lost work time. 5. Students will receive a participation grade (25 points) for all critiques. If a student is absent on the day of a critique, it is their responsibility to make up their critique the day they return or they will be given a 0. B. FINAL EXAM 1. The final exam will be worth 20% of the semester grade. 2. The final exam will be a combination of a vocabulary, information review, classmates names, and art room cleaning. 3. Students are expected to keep all handouts and vocabulary sheets/notes, as the final exam will be based on this information. Written 7-19-2011
