Land Biomes 5th Grade Presented by Todd Franze EDU 505 Dr. Harrison Yang Introduction Throughout the various habitats of the world and the 1.5 million plant and animal species, we have grouped these environments into 6 land biomes: -Desert -Tundra -Temperate Forest -Taiga -Rainforest -Grassland Biomes are large ecosystems characterized by various plant and animal species with a prevailing climate. There are 4 characteristics of each biome which makes it unique: – Flora – Fauna – Climate – Adaptations Task As a group, you will become experts in all of the land biomes. Individually, you will explore a specific biome. After mastering the content of your biome, you will teach your group about each characteristic. To master the content you will… – Visit the MBGnet website of land biomes. – Answer the questions for your biome by exploring the website. – Make an informational poster about the characteristics of your biome. (Using visuals and text) After mastering the content of your biome, you will present your information to your group members. Answer the wrap-up questions as a group. Process Choose which group member is covering each land biome. Visit the MBGnet website: http://www.mbgnet.net/ Answer each of the questions for your land biome. Create an informational poster using visuals and text to explain each characteristic of your land biome. Present your poster and how you answered the essential questions to your group members. Answer the wrap-up questions as a group. Which Land Biome Did You Choose? How does temperature range and precipitation impact a biome? How do abiotic and biotic factors interact within a biome? How are biomes similar and different? What impact will these biomes have on my life? How do we adapt to our environment, similar to animals? Evaluation Individual Questions: 10% Informational Poster: 40% Presentation: 20% Wrap-Up Questions: 30% Your job as an expert is to be able to communicate your biome’s characteristics effectively to the rest of your group. Take your time and explore the website to gather all the information needed. Conclusion After completing your biome’s questions, informational poster, presentation, and wrap-up questions, you are experts on land biomes! Congratulations! Which biome was the most interesting? What can we do from destroying these beautiful landscapes? Do you think our biomes will be prevailing or depleting in the years to come?
