Staff Accountant/Accounts Payable
Reports to:

Controller, Vice President of Finance and Operations

SUMMARY:
This individual will fill a key accounting role within the Business Office. The position will support various aspects of finance and
accounting for the company. The individual will need to be effective and experienced in general accounting practices. The
position requires solid accounting experience combined with strong analytical skill. The individual must have strong problem
solving skills, work ethics, organizational and prioritization skills, attention to detail, decision making skills, and the ability to
work closely with others. In addition, it requires someone who has the ability to multi task and work effectively and efficiently
in an open environment with interruptions. The position will support various aspects of the financial cycle, emphasizing on
accounts payable, but not limited to, working closely with Controller and the Chief Financial Officer, and Board Finance
Committee, assisting in various audits, and monitoring various metrics of the business to aide in daily operational decisions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.















Accounts payable
Inter-fund transactions
Record monthly expenses and activity for multi-million dollar non-profit organization.
Perform monthly reconciliations
Record daily cash activity
Communicate effectively with parents, students, staff and vendors. Be able to manage difficult or emotional
situations; and respond promptly to student or parent needs.
Review expenses and prepare checks for signature
Assist in the month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing processes ensuring transactions are in accordance with
GAAP.
Ensure internal policies and procedures are followed and communicate exceptions to management.
Work as a team with Controller and Assistant Controller in standardizing practices and procedures.
General accounting responsibilities
Journal entries
Account reconciliations and accruals
Organization of Accounts payable position, including desktop, filing, etc.
Special Projects
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements
listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
4-7 years of accounts payable experience; a proven track record of academic and professional excellence; demonstrated
skills and experience in managing goals through collaboration and teamwork. Experienced and skilled in reconciliations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure
manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or
employees of the organization, and strong oral and written communication skills required.

ATTENDANCE/PUNCTUALITY
Consistently at work and on time; Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent; Arrive at meetings and
appointments on time.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense, understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability
to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to multi task and deal with
interruptions while staying on task efficiently. Ability to stay organized.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
The applicant should have strong knowledge of general accounting software (Knowledge of BlackBaud Financial Edge a
plus); Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint software.


Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth
perception and ability to adjust focus.
This is a full time 40 hr/week position with full Medical, Dental, Vision and Retirement benefits offered.
Salary commensurate with experience.
