Finding Your 5 Choices for High
School
All students may have 5 PUBLIC high

could have six choices. The process goes
as follows:
1. September-October: High school
assemblies are held at the middle
school based on student/parent
interest. (not all high schools visit all
middle schools)
2. October-November:
Shadowing/visiting the high schools
3. November-- City High School Fair
held at Camden Yards.
4. November--applications are
distributed to students in classroom
lessons.. December : High school
applications are due to counselor.
5. Placement letters go out in March of
2013.

Counselor’s Message
At last, we are about to embark on High
School Choice Activities! It is imperative that
each student take home every Colorado
House Newsletter and discuss its contents
with your parent/guardian. (Newsletters will
also be available online at
www.baltimorecityschools.org/233.)
Newsletters will contain information regarding
high school open houses, the application
process, shadowing, high school assemblies
here at RPEMS, student service learning, early
college awareness, career day, and much
more. Remember that admission to many
BCPS high schools is based upon a composite
score determined by your 7th grade final
grades and MSA scores, and your 8th grade
first quarter grades and attendance.
Each 8th grader has matured in many ways
since 6th grade! This year, prepare well for
high school, as you display your academic
brilliance and excellent social skills! Parents
and students, feel free to email me at
cducroix@bcps.k12.md.us. .
I will be available by appointment only-Wednesdays until 5PM beginning October 17th
through November 14th and again November
28th through December 12th .
Sincerely,
Connie DuCroix
8th Grade Counselor

Shadowing
Baltimore School for the Arts
Some BCPS high schools offer shadowing, which
involves spending a half-day or day at a high
school to help you in making your high school
application choices. Here’s the process: Sign up
with your counselor, they will check your grades
from 7th grade, and if your grades meet that
school’s requirements and the school has
space to accommodate you, you will receive a
shadowing permission slip.
Baltimore City College High School, instead of
shadowing, offers half-day “Preview Days” for
qualified students, based upon space. Roland
Park’s Preview Days at City are currently being
arranged. As described above, students who
express interest will be given a permission slip
based on their 7th grade report card.
Students will be counted present for shadow days
as long as the high school acknowledges your
attendance there on that day. DRESS AND
BEHAVIOR FOR ASSEMBLIES AND
SHADOWING ARE TO BE THE SAME AS
EVERY DAY AT ROLAND PARK. YOU
REPRESENT ROLAND PARK WHEREVER YOU
ARE!

Student Cumulative Records
City College High School
Right now there are still many students who have NOT
brought in the requested information missing from their
folder. In some cases, requests have been made since
6th grade for such things as: 2 proofs of address in the
parents’/guardians’ name; proof of medical exam,
missing elementary report cards, etc. Copies of these
letters are kept in your school record until we receive
the missing information. PLEASE TAKE CARE OF
THIS OVERDUE BUSINESS before it is too late.
