Cheesy Bread Lab
Day 1 - Friday:
2 People make the following:
1 1/3 cup mozzarella cheese
2/3 cup mayonnaise
2 Tbsp sour cream
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 stick unsalted butter (1/2 cup, 4 ounces), softened to the point of being slightly melted
In a large bowl, mix together the cheese, mayonnaise and sour cream. In a separate small bowl blend the
butter and garlic until smooth. Add the butter mixture to the cheese mixture.
2 People make your assigned spice combination:
Kitchen 1- Greek
Kitchen 2- Italian
Kitchen 3- French
Kitchen 4- Cajun
Kitchen 5- Mexican
Kitchen 6- European
In a small bowl blend your spices. Add the spice mixture to the cheese mixture. Put the mixture in a large
ramekin, saran wrap, label and put it in the refrigerator.
Day 2 - Monday:
2 People do the following:
1. Preheat Oven to 400.
2. Slice loaf of bread in half horizontally, lay crust side down. Spread cheese mixture over the bread.
Sprinkle 1 cup of parmesan cheese on each side.
3. Bake the bread in center of oven for 10 minutes. Make sure bread isn’t extending over the baking
sheet. Use 2 if necessary.
4. Set up paper towel like we did for the applesauce lab. You should have 6 spots for each type of
bread. Use a pen or pencil to write on the paper towel.
2 People do the following:
5. Make a cup of lemonade for each group member. We need to drink lemonade between each type
of bread to clear our palate. Use plastic cups.
6. Remove from oven and let sit for 5 minutes until cool enough to handle. On a cutting board, with a
seriated knife (bread knife) cut one side of the bread into 22 pieces. Cut the other side for just your
group.
7. Put a piece of your bread on everyone’s paper towel.
We will taste together and talk about combinations. Don’t start
early…..
