The SATs - Levels •Level 4 the national expectation •Level 5 above national expectation •Level 6 secondary expectation possibly Year 8…not just a harder extension of Lev 3 – 5 papers: different scheme of work •2 Levels progress Timetable for the week Date Tests Monday 11 May Levels 3-5: English reading test Level 6: English reading test Tuesday 12 May Levels 3-5: English grammar, punctuation and spelling test Level 6: English grammar, punctuation and spelling test Wednesday 13 May Levels 3-5: mental mathematics test and mathematics Paper 1 No level 6 tests timetabled for this day Thursday 14 May Levels 3-5: mathematics Paper 2 Level 6: mathematics Paper 1 and Paper 2 Levels 3 – 5 Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar 20 spellings – giving up to 20 marks A short answer booklet – giving up to 50 marks 44 - 46/70 is a Level 4 54-56 /70 is a Level 5 Level 6 Test Similar to above but Year 7 words and grammar. Plus a 20 min short writing assignment. Need to attain 37/50 to secure Level 6 Mathematics Level 3 – 5s test 20 question Mental test – up to 20 marks 2 further non calculator tests – 40 marks available in each Level 4 threshold ranges from 46 - 48% Level 5 threshold ranges from 77-79% Level 6 Test 2x30 minute papers – 1 non –calculator, 1 calculator. Need to achieve 34/50 to secure a Level 6 Reading Comprehension Levels 3 - 5 A 1 hr test with 3 texts to read and answer questions upon. Questions and texts range from easier, more accessible language, to difficult texts with in depth answers required. 50 marks are available. Level 4 threshold – 18 or 19/50 Level 5 threshold – 34 - 36/50 Level 6 Test A very difficult text with demanding questions. Test lasts 1 hr. To attain Level 6, need to secure 22 out of 33! 1% of pupils who took the test nationally achieved Level 6 last year. Ways to support your child Study books Feel free to download practise tests (but no later than 2010 please as we use them for assessment) available from satspapers.org Spelling investigations Good night’s rest/relaxing weekend/ brain food breakfast prior to tests! Reassure them – no need to feel under any pressure – teacher assessment alongside the tests!
