Status of Role
The post holder will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team within the Federation of both
Stocklake Park School and Booker Park School. The role will be to assist the Senior Teacher and Head
of School in the leadership and management of teaching and learning at Stocklake Park School.
This post will be line managed by the Head of School.
Job Purpose
This document should be read in conjunction with the class teacher job description
The key responsibility is to ensure high quality learning and teaching in a designated area of the
school. The area will be reviewed annually to reflect the changing range and needs of the pupils
attending the school.
An attachment will be written on a year by year basis reflecting the range of responsibility for the
academic year
There will also be a designated whole school responsibility for Staff Professional Development,
Assessment and Reporting.
There will be a 0.8 teaching responsibility (to include PPA time)
The Lead on Assessment will lead, manage and administer assessment systems and procedures
within School. He/she will oversee the collection, recording and reporting of information to a range
of audiences. He/she will be responsible for collecting, collating and providing information for a
variety of stakeholders.
Half a day per week for this work
Key Responsibilities
Information Gathering;
Collecting, collating, recording, reporting and analysing assessment information across the school to
inform provision and practice.
This includes:
 Annual collation and recording of assessments KS3, 4 &5.
 Ensure that the ordering and checking of assessment materials is in place, and students’
portfolios and outcomes submitted and dispatched as required.
 Responsibilities - attend training, keep up to date with assessment procedures, and feedback
to SLT.
 Supporting staff on data input into relevant systems.
Moderation
The School’s provision of consistent and accurate assessment information is essential. The
moderation of assessment information is therefore a key aspect of this role.
Responsibilities include:
 The organisation of internal moderation and progress and target setting/review meetings.
 Leading school contributions to external moderation meetings.
 Reviewing assessment information to ensure internal consistency.
 Reporting to SLT on possible improvements to moderation procedures
 Overseeing moderation in Maths, English and of OCR LLS submissions (Stocklake Site).
Recording and Reporting
Responsibilities include:
 Ensuring records are maintained , checked for accuracy and regularly monitored throughout
the school
 Working with teachers to ensure appropriate subject assessments are in place
 Reviewing and refining systems for sharing information with parents and other stakeholders
 Termly School Performance Report to be presented to governors at Schools’ Committee
meeting
 Annual progress and target setting information for Governors and SLT.
 Reporting on possible improvements to information and reporting procedures.
 Reporting of information to stakeholders.
Leading Professional Development










Working closely with members of the leadership team on CPD matters ensuring that
individual nees are considered and best met within the constraints of available finance and
that these fit in with whole school improvement planning.
A commitment to reflection and continual development are fundamental values of the
Federation. This role will include developmental activities, negotiated through Performance
Management, which are aimed at improving assessment procedures across the School.
Build a professional learning community which enables others to achieve, through appraisal
and effective continuing professional development, to encourage a commitment of selfevaluation and own continuing professional development.
Secure the commitment of the wider community to the school be developing and
maintaining effective partnerships with schools, other services and agencies.
Lead relevant CPD provision for staff to build capacity across the school
Appraisal of colleagues
The identification of possible development activities through reflection and a critical analysis
of current assessment procedures.
The construction of an Annual Development Plan for assessment.
Undertaking an on-going review of national and local assessment developments and
reporting to SLT as appropriate (2015/16 development).
To contribute to school self-evaluation and school improvement plans.
Teachers and Teaching

Leading colleagues and building teams

Support the provision of effective organisation and management of the school and
establishing school improvement based on self evaluation

Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers and external agencies for the wellbeing of all students

Undertake leading role in construction, implementation and evaluation of the school
improvement plan, along with other members of SLT

Undertake a strategic role in development planning to enhance the success of the federation

Support the raising of the quality of teaching and learning through the highest expectations
and monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of outcomes. Be accountable for high
quality learning and teaching in the assigned area of responsibility through regular
monitoring and support to promote high standards and achievement for all.

Act as Performance Management Team Leader for the department team monitoring the
quality of teaching and learning through planned lesson observations providing feedback to
individuals on their specific strengths and areas for development.

Influencing and inspiring the professional development of teachers in the department team
through own exemplary classroom practice

Ensure that mentoring is in place for any NQTs and student teachers assigned to the
department

Act as a positive role model and be proactive in supporting individual team members;
ensuring they are familiar with, and implementing, the school’s policies and procedures. For
example report writing, pupil profiles and positive management of behaviour.

Ensure there is effective and consistent curriculum planning across the department taking into
account the individual class needs. Ensure the work is shared equitably among team members

Ensure department team members work collaboratively with other professionals in an
environment of mutual respect

Share responsibility for leading and chairing Annual Reviews and any other professional
meetings as required.

Support school improvement by the production, implementation and monitoring of plans

Be accountable for the development, monitoring and implementation of the designated whole
school responsibility
Children and Learning

Ensure high standards of learning are maintained within the department by ensuring class
teachers set appropriately challenging targets which are related to the individual pupil’s learning
needs

Ensure record keeping and assessment within the department is both effective and kept up to
date to ensure whole school reporting is accurate and is consistent with standards agreed in the
moderation framework

Maintain effective monitoring and assessment of progress for the department and report to the
person responsible for whole school assessment

Oversee the maintenance of the departments learning environments, including classrooms,
corridors and display spaces

Give support to the department staff in the implementation and review of positive behaviour
management plans

Work with colleagues and department teachers to ensure that pupils are given opportunities for
learning outside the classroom through use of Federation resources, educational visits and
visitors to the school

Maintain an overview of class-based and shared learning resources; make appropriate
recommendations to department staff within budget constraints

Plan, manage, monitor and account for any budget assigned to the Department
