ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT MUSEUMS Membership, Marketing and Projects Manager [Full-time, short term contract to 31 March 2015, with likely extension to March 2018 depending on funding (see end note)] Responsible to: Responsible for: Works with: Salary range: Holiday: AIM Executive Director (ED) Freelance and contractors as required AIM administrator – conference organisation; AIM membership administrator – membership; AIM Editor – publications; AIM ED projects £28,000 to £30,000 p.a. 28 days p.a. including bank holidays PURPOSE OF THE JOB To be responsible for AIM’s membership and marketing and other projects as required. SUCCESS CRITERIA AIM increases its membership and income from suppliers and supplier members AIM provides effective communications with and services for its members Projects are delivered to high standards and relationships with partners are developed and strengthened KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Membership 1. Increase AIM’s membership including the new Associate Supplier Member category. 2. First point of contact for queries from members. 3. Supporting Bulletin editor in obtaining advertising income from suppliers for the Bulletin and developing new advertising opportunities e.g. online. 4. Developing the e-news to become fortnightly in partnership with AIM’s editor. 5. Writing articles for AIM Blog and other AIM publications. 6. Working with AIM editor to commission and produce new Success Guides. Marketing 7. Develop, manage and implement AIM’s communications and marketing strategy and plan. 8. Manage AIM’s PR and external communications with sector publications. 9. Website development and maintenance (to include complete redesign of website in 2015-16) 10. Social media – development and management of AIM’s twitter feed, facebook page, blog and other social media. 1 11. Ensure AIM understands the needs of its members and potential members. 12. Manage contracts with external suppliers / contractors as required. Projects and Events 13. Develop and /or manage AIM projects as agreed with the Executive Director. 14. Represent AIM and manage AIM’s contribution to joint projects with partners as agreed. 15. Booking and briefing speakers and practical arrangements for speakers for AIM Annual Conference 16. Organisation of workshops and other ad-hoc events (practical arrangements made by AIM administrator) General 17. Attend AIM Comms Committee meetings and take minutes. 18. Management of budgets as required. 19. To keep abreast of latest developments that affect the sector and ensure own professional development. 20. Other duties as reasonably required. PERSON SPECIFICATION Education High standard of written English. Knowledge and Experience Marketing – strategic and implementation Digital / social media and website development and management Experience in writing copy, articles, reports etc. Experience of managing the provision of a service to members or customers to high standards. Project initiation, management and delivery. Essential skills/attributes Ability to work remotely and flexibly, whilst maintaining close liaison with colleagues. Able to use own initiative – ‘can do’ attitude. Approachable and able to build relationships with, support and/or work with a wide range of people and partners. Reliable and able to deliver on commitments. Excellent event planning, organisational and administrative skills Able to understand and advocate for the needs and character of independent museums and heritage organisations. 2 REQUIREMENTS The post, unless otherwise agreed, will be home-based. The initial contract to March 2015 may be self-employed or employed but from April 2015, if extended, the position would be employed. Working hours are flexible but must be agreed in advance with the Executive Director. Some travel within the UK and overnight stays away will be required. Extension of the Post Until March 2015 the post is part-funded by Arts Council England (ACE). We have been invited to apply for further funding to extend the post to March 2018 as part of a larger application to ACE and the outcome of this will be known in February 2015. If funding allows it is AIM’s intention to maintain this post beyond 2018. 3
