• Choose a partner
• Write down their answers.
– Ask as many questions as you can.
• Introduce your partner to the class. Give
the answers to 2-3 of the questions s/he
answered.
Syllabus
• Please get a highlighter and a writing utensil
• I will indicate the things you need to highlight.
Diagnostic Essay
• You will now have 45 minutes to complete a
short essay (minimum 3-5 paragraphs)
• You may leave the room to type it, if you wish.
• Follow instructions on the handout.
Prewriting Techniques: Jigsaw
• Each group will be assigned one
or more of the
“Prime the pump” techniques.
• Read the explanation and example in the
book.
• Use that technique to do a pre-write for a 1-2
pg paper about college. You will need to focus
your topic (make it more specific)

• The first group to complete the entire
