Be seated on time

Result for meeting expectations:

good news.
Logical consequences for not meeting class expectations:
First time: verbal warning.
Second time: student-teacher conference with written apology and/or selfreflection note. Time- out.
Third time: Depending on the case, call to parents, or referral to the
Principal’s office.
Besides respecting all Hume-Fogg rules, please be aware that I do not allow
food or beverages, except water, in the classroom. No sleeping, No
chewing gum, no grooming (putting on make-up, deodorant, creams,
cologne, doing your hair, or somebody else, etc…) these actions are better
left for the privacy of your own home. Gentlemen, make sure your pants are
pulled to your waist before you enter the classroom. Last but not least,
please avoid physical contact with other students.
Procedures: Every class begins with a 5 minutes warm up activity, while I
am checking your homework. I will set the timer, so please be ready to work
when the bell rings.
Every student must be in their seats before being dismissed. The clock does
not dismiss you, I dismiss you.
If you need to sharpen your pencil do it before class or wait for a polite
moment to do it.
When I am explaining which ever point to the class, do not raise your hand
unless it is for a question pertaining to the explanation. If you have to go to
the bathroom, wait until it is appropriate to do so.
If you finish your work early, choose another/next activity listed on the
board while others finish their work.
Homework will be placed on your desk as you work on your warm up.
Any work that you do must have the pledge for honesty, the date you turn it
in, and a number you will be assigned along with your initials. You will not
be allowed to do homework in class. The idea of homework is work done at
home, not work done in class while I am checking other’s work. Students
will create a set of flashcards per each lesson finished.
Course Content: The purpose of the Spanish 3 course is to further the
students’ use and command of the Spanish language, building upon what
was learned in Spanish 1 and 2, and preparing for advanced study in Spanish
4 and AP Spanish courses. Spanish 3 students are expected to have achieved
a mastery of the uses of present, preterit, imperfect, and present subjunctive
verbs, as well as demonstrative, objective, and reflexive pronouns, and
commands. Students should also have instant recall of vocabulary that
covers a wide range of activities and objects, and should have an
understanding of complex sentence structures. During the course of the
year, the students will be expected to master the uses of the following
grammatical concepts:
Present and Past Perfect Tenses
Future Tense
Reciprocal Verbs
Impersonal Cons
Conditional Tense
All aspects of Present Subjunctive Tense
Imperfect Subjunctive Tense
Future Perfect Tense
Conditional Perfect Tense
Present Perfect Subjunctive Tense
Past Perfect Subjunctive Tense
Relative and Object Pronouns.
They will also be expected to expand and deepen their vocabulary based on
the vocabulary covered in the text, the readings and activities from the
supplementary materials, and the vocabulary list for the NSE (National
Spanish Examination), which all students are required to take around the
month of April. Moreover, students will acquired a working knowledge of
cultural/geographical/historical concepts related to the countries covered in
class and covered by student’s own research.
Grading: Students will be evaluated based on their demonstration of
proficiency on chapter tests, quizzes, projects and presentations, class
work/participation, homework, and other assignments.
Grades will be calculated on percentage system. There will be tree
different categories: 1) Test and quizzes with 55% of the total grade. 2)
Class work, homework, participation, with 20% of the total grade. 3)
Projects and presentations with 25% of the total. While homework will be
20 points and class work / participation 10 points, tests, quizzes, projects,
and presentations will be assigned 10-100 possible points. Grades can be
found on Gradespeed.
All work is to be completed and submitted on time. Only excused
absences will be afforded a 48 hour reprieve, but any such assignments must
be discussed with me immediately upon the student’s return to class.
Some assignments will require that students work with their peers;
therefore, mutual respect is mandatory. All students will also be required to
participate in assigned tasks in the Foreign Language Computer Lab. Some
lab assignments will need to be completed outside of class, and students will
be afforded opportunities during independent study and after school to use
the lab to do so.
Plagiarism/cheating: All work submitted by every student is expected to be
his/her own. Any submission of work taken in whole or in part from the
internet, any publication, or another student will be given the grade of zero
and could result in review by the Honesty Committee.
The following is a tentative calendar of when particular chapters and
concepts will be covered during the year. This may change based on any
number of unforeseen circumstances. Any changes to this calendar will be
announced to students in class, published in my web page, and students will
be responsible to record any changes on their personal agendas.
