AP Lab – Hardy Weinberg 2014
**Look at the Hardy Weinberg lab from the web page, and your notes to help you
answer this page. .
Answer the following as a pre-lab to AP Lab #8:
1. List the conditions for a Hardy-Weinberg Population.
2. Explain why is it so unlikely that these conditions will be met in nature?
3. Write an explanation of the differences and similarities between DNA, a
gene, and an allele.
4. What do the letters p, and q represent according to Hardy Weinberg?
5. Explain the formula p2 + 2pq + q2 = 1. What is the relationship with this
formula and punnett squares?
6. Read the AP Biology Lab # 8, Population Genetics. We will do this lab on
Monday.
7. Write a hypothesis for expected allele outcome for Case 1.
8. Write down the formula of how to determine the allele frequencies.
9. Write a hypothesis for expected allele outcome for Case 2.
10.Write a hypothesis for expected allele outcome for Case 3.
11.In a large population of organisms that is in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium,
gene A is found in two allelic forms: A and a. If the frequency of the
dominant allele A in the population is 0.7, approximately how many
individuals out of 100 would be expected to be homozygous recessive?
Write out the value of p2 q2 2pq and p q.
