Course Description: This course will emphasize the cultural and historic patterns of Early Civilizations by using an interdisciplinary approach stressing geography, archaeology, history, economics, government, reading, and writing. The theme presented throughout the course will be the relationship of modern and contemporary life to past cultures and their problems. The course will enable the students to analyze their present problems by relating them with similar situations from the past. Topic: Approximate Times: Introduction of class procedures 3 class periods Basic Concepts (History, Archaeology, Time) One Week Pre-History (Paleolithic and Neolithic Worlds) Three Weeks Mesopotamia (Fertile Crescent) Four Weeks Egypt Three Weeks Military Empires Two Weeks The Greeks Eight Weeks India & China Two weeks The Romans Four Weeks Middle Ages Three Weeks Renaissance Three Weeks Grading Policy Grades will be based on tests, quizzes, projects, JOTs (journal of thinking), notebook checks, class work and homework. Late homework will be reduced by 50%. Absentee students will receive a reasonable amount of time to complete work. The grading scale will be: A= 90-100% B= 80-89% C= 70-79% D= 60-69% F= 0-59% Class Rules 1. Be on time and in your seats when the bell rings. 2. Remain in your seat until the bell rings. You need permission to leave desk. 3. All class work must be handed in during your class period. 4. Late homework will result in a 50% reduction. 5. If you are absent it is your responsibility to see Mrs. Cherry for the work. 6. JOTs must be completed even if you are absent. 7. Have all the materials for class you will need: Pencil and Notebooks 8. Respect yourself and each other. 9. Any food, beverage, or gum is not prepared in Mrs. Cherry's room. 10. All school rules apply. If you choose not to follow any of the above rules, the following procedure will be followed: (This procedure may be changed at the discretion of the teacher) First Incident: Verbal warning by teacher Second Incident: Talk with after class.
