Welcome To Mrs.Giddens’s Word Processing and WOW Classes! Mrs. Suzanne Giddens • Married, 2 sons, OU & OSU • This is my 24th teaching year at Jenks • This is my 37 year at JPS. In this class the students will learn to: •Keyboard by touch •Prepare different types reports •One page report •Multi-page report •Type different types of letters The first quarter we will: concentrate on keyboarding skills using MicroType Mac. Advantages of this program: it requires students to reach a level of proficiency before going on and gives adequate practice. Grading on MicroType Mac Your grade will be based on how many words per minute you type. Every lesson will be given a grade. Lessons 1-8 are based on 20 wpm. (see charts posted in room) Lessons 9-18 are based on 30 wpm. (see charts posted in room) Any lessons not up to the required wpm with minimal errors will Be deleted and you will have to redo them. Any lessons not completed by the end of 1st quarter (October 14th) will become 0’s if they are not completed by December 1st. Second quarter we will: •work on typing reports and letters. A major project for the second quarter is the Research Paper Research Paper Requirements Topic: Careers (example) Length: 3 Pages not including Cover Page and Works Cited Page Font: Times, Arial, Courier,or Geneva Format: Multi-Page Report format Content • A Description of this career • Characteristics and Qualities of persons seeking this career • Education needed • Advantages and Disadvantages of this career • Expected Salary • How Computers are Used in this career JENKS MIDDLE SCHOOL MOTTO A school where lifelong learning is valued, excellence is expected, and improvement is continuous. Grading on Research Paper • 25% Content – Description – Characteristics and Qualities – Education – Advantages and Disadvantages – Salary – How Computers are Used • 75% Format and typing. – Spelling – Punctuation – Margins – Cover Page – Works Cited Page What is W.O.W • W.O.W. stands for World Of Work • In this class the students work in groups as companies to complete projects. • Each student completes EVERY project. Sometimes the projects are parts of a whole, sometimes the company will select which person’s project is to be used. Each student’s work is graded individually. In this class the students will be introduced to: •Word Processors (MS Word) •Spreadsheets (MS Excel) •Graphics Software (Adobe Photoshop Elements) •Web Page Software (Adobe GoLive) Projects for WOW Class Research Checks Company Logo Minutes Mission Statement Business Cards e-mail Company Sign Spreadsheet Letterhead Company Meetings Business Letter Press Release Slide Show Survey/ Results/Graph Photos Web page Brochures Newsletter Invitation MultiMedia Presentation Plan a trip Video Commercial Classroom Guidelines 1. Respect others and the equipment 2. Work comes first 3. No one talks while I am talking 4. No food, gum or drinks Homework Requirements • All work should be completed in the classroom • On Fridays, no new assignments are given so that students may get caught up on any incomplete work.
