Monthly Book Reports: You are required to complete one book report per month. Please follow the following guidelines: Book Report: Fiction (Complete this book report if your book is fictional) **More than ½ of the books you read over the course of the year must be non-fiction! After you read the book, a three-four page typed, double spaced, font size 12 report is to written in which you complete the following tasks: 1. Identify the major characters and give a brief description of each. 2. Summarize the plot (in about one – two paragraphs). Include the setting and the point of view from which the story is told. 3. Describe major conflicts. Refer to your notes to review types of conflict. 4. State the theme of the book. (Remember that the theme of a book is the author’s message.) **Refer to specific evidence from the book to illustrate your statement. 5. Copy an important quotation from the book. Explain the quotation’s meaning and why you selected it. 6. Include at least three examples of literary devices that the author used in the book. Literary devices include onomatopoeia, foreshadowing, allusion, metaphor, imagery, personification, flashback, hyperbole, irony, or symbolism. 7. If you met the author of this book, what are two suggestions or compliments you would make about the book? 8. Find at least ten vocabulary words in the book that are new to you. In your personal dictionary, write the words, the part of speech, the definition and the sentence from the book that the word appeared. Hand in your personal dictionary with your book report. 9. Read a review of this book. Write a paragraph explaining whether you agree with the review or not and why. **Include a copy of the review and where you got it from in the report. 10. Create a neat and attractive cover for your report. Cover should include title, author, and a scene either drawn by you or by a computer that depicts an important scene or theme of the story. You may not use a cover used by the publisher. Write a paragraph which includes an overall summary of the book. 3. Choose five of the most interesting or exciting chapters in the book. Describe each one and state why you found each one interesting. 4. Describe at least five new facts or ideas that you learned from reading this book. Be sure that you do not use the same information that you have used in the section above. Include details. 5. If you met the author of this book, what are two suggestions or compliments you would make about the book? 6. Would you recommend this book to anyone? Why or why not? 7. Read a review of this book.
