WHY NOW?
Application deadlines for summer programs are
in the spring from Feb to May
 There are many types of programs so you have to
research and make some decisions before you
apply
 Programs fill up, so the earlier the better
 If it requires an audition (performing arts) you
will need to schedule
 You may need a recommendation from a
counselor or teacher
 Have time to discuss with your parent/guardian

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES?

 It can give you insight into life on a college
campus
 It can give you exposure to various career areas
i.e., business, engineering, foreign relations,
medicine
 You develop or hone an new skill (tap dancing,
Spanish, math)
 Meet students from different schools, parts of the
country/world
 Shows initiative, whether it be a summer
program, job or volunteer activity

