ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY :
• Anna University was established on 4th
September 1978 as a unitary type of
University.
• It offers higher education in Engineering,
Technology and allied Sciences relevant to
the current and projected needs of the
society. Besides promoting research and
disseminating knowledge gained therefrom,
it fosters cooperation between the academic
and industrial communities.
ABOUT THE COLLEGE :
• Alagappa College of Technology is
an educational institution that offers higher
education in Engineering, Technology and
allied Sciences.
• The college was established in 1944 and was
integrated with Anna University in 1978
from University of Madras as a constituent
part of Anna University.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT :
• Department of Applied science and Technology is the newest established department in Anna
University.
• The DAST shall motivate and strive for the creation of innovative, competent and
compassionate human resources for sustainable and holistic development for achieving social
harmony and ensuring quality living.
• Special emphasis on promoting professional education took upon its shoulder the task of
removing this imbalance and decided to create an inspiring environment for learning, research
and professional activity in the field of technical education.
• Our mission is to build up a world-class institute to produce quality engineers with
competence, skill and confidence so that they can take active part in our nation building.
SOCIETY OF PETROLEUM ENGINEERS
• SPE is the largest individual member
organization serving managers, engineers,
scientists and other professionals worldwide
in the upstream segment of the oil and gas
industry.
• In 1957, the organization was officially
founded as SPE, a constituent society of
AIME.
SPE
became
a
separately
incorporated organization in 1985.
• In 2000s,SPE reached its highest number of
members in its history, partly due to the
high growth rate in the number of student
members and chapters.
PROSPECTS OF YOUTH INDIVIDUALS
• Today SPE continues its constant search for new ways to meet member needs in all phases of
their careers in all parts of the world.
• Indian petroleum companies, candidates with qualification in petroleum engineering get jobs
in Reliance Industries Ltd, ONGC, Schlumberger, British Gas, Halliburton Services, Essar
Oil, GSPC, Shell, OIL, Gas Authority of India Ltd, Cairn Energy, IOCL, Essar Oil Ltd, NIKO
Resources, GEOENPRO, MECOM Ltd, Baker Hughes, Reliance Energy, etc amongst many
others.
• Whereas a golden future in exploitation of ‘liquid gold’ attracts every young engineer, risks
involved in it can deter many not to opt for such a career. On the positive side, it is a highly
rewarding career and also provides opportunities to travel to distant places.
SPE A.C.TECH STUDENT CHAPTER
• SPE A.C.Tech Student chapter is an Blooming Active Student Organizing board, initiated by
Dr.S.Kalaiselvam, H.O.D, towards the end of 2015.
• This has been facilitated in a way that Students can develop their communication skills, networking,
leadership skills, integrity.
• SPE Intl., A C Tech Student Chapter, initiator and primary organizer of the Gasolina’16, invites financial
support from corporations, foundations, and other organizations to help defray the costs of organizing
Gasolina’16.

ENERGY INDEPENDENCE
• Our Theme for this year has been adopted from Our Former President Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam
Sir.
• In one of his books ‘Squaring The Circle’, he has mentioned the concept of Energy
Independence by 2030.
• He proposed that Energy Independence must be achieved majorly in three sectors namely,
Renewable Energy (solar, wind and hydro power), Electrical Power from Nuclear Energy and
Biofuels for Transportation.
• Achieving Energy Independence is an immense technological challenge for the country.
• This year we will be focusing majorly on the latter sector.
