AP Chemistry Summer Assignment (2015)
The course selection sheets for the 2015-2016 school year indicate that you have selected
to enroll in AP Chemistry. If this for some reason is no longer true, please either see Mrs. Condurso
in A201 or return this letter in my mailbox (K. Condurso) in the office indicating that you have
had a change of plans.
Due to the extensive amount of curriculum that needs to be covered in this course, it is
necessary for me to make sure that all of my AP students have a secure understanding of some of
the major chemistry topics that have been addressed in your first year chemistry course. To
accomplish this goal, you are going to be held accountable for reading and understanding the first
three chapters in our AP text that focuses on the review of these major concepts. The details of
this assignment are found at the bottom of this page. The first day of school is Wednesday
September 9th. This assignment will be due on Friday September 11th. Because of the extent of
this assignment, I am allowing my AP students to take a book home over the summer if you wish
to work on it at a more leisurely pace. I will not be re-teaching this material to you, so please take
this seriously. You will be tested on this information shortly after the school year begins.
It is your responsibility to stop by A201 before the close of school to pick up
your text book and your online access pass code for OWL (OWL is an online
assessment tool that goes with our AP book). Every student enrolled in AP
Chemistry must come to pick up a book and pass code.
As I stated, the following assignment covers major topics that were covered in your first
year chemistry class. This should serve as a review for you so that we can then build on this
foundation of information. There are 2 parts to your summer assignment. They are outlined below.
Part I: Reading Assignment
1) Chapter 1
2) Chapter 2
3) Chapter 3
Part II: Online Quizzes - using OWL (available starting Monday June 22nd)
1) Chapter 1
2) Chapter 2
3) Chapter 3
100 points total
PLEASE DO NOT SIGN ON TO OWL UNLESS YOU ARE POSITIVE THAT YOU ARE
TAKING MY CLASS. ONCE YOUR ACCESS CODE IS ENTERED, IT CAN NO
LONGER BE USED BY ANYONE ELSE. THESE ACCESS CODES COST A
CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF MONEY AND I DON’T WANT TO SEE THAT MONEY
WASTED. IF YOU DECIDE TO DROP THE CLASS, PLEASE RETURN THE BOOK
AND UNUSED ACCESS CODE BACK TO ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Instructions for Gaining Access to OWL Online:
1. Pick up your personalized access code from me in A-201. Every student has a
different access code so you cannot use someone else’s code.
2. Go to http://login.cengagebrain.com
3. Click “Create an Account”
4. In the “Enter Code or Course Key” box, enter the access code you were given
which is found on the inside of the orange card you were given.
5. Provide the “Account Information” when asked. Write down your user name
and password in a secure location so that you can gain access to this site all year.
6. Once you land on the “My Home” page, click the “open” button next to K12HS
SSO OWL V2 Chemistry
7. When you land on the screen that says “Instructor-Led Course?” enter the
following course key in the box provided: E-TWQNPLZJXME9A (This will
enroll you into my class)
8. The next screen should say “Congratulations! You are now enrolled in AP
Chemistry 15_16” and you should see my name listed.
9. Click on the “assignments” tab to access the quizzes. If the quizzes do not appear,
click on “all assignments”. The quizzes will be available for you to take beginning
Monday June 22nd. They all must be completed and submitted by Friday September
11th at midnight.
If for some reason you misplace this sheet, a copy of it can be found on my eboard:

If you have trouble gaining access to OWL or if you have any other questions over the summer,
you can contact me via email:
