GREEK GODS/ GODDESSES/FIGURES
Since you are learning more and more about Ancient Greece, you will be taking that
knowledge and using that in the Language Arts classroom. You will choose a Greek
god or goddess from the list below to research. You will be writing an informational
essay, given certain items to research. There may be some oral presentation or
activity that goes along with the written project. That will be determined later.
Proposed Timeline…
December 1-2: Choose Greek god or goddess
December 15-18: Research in both the classroom and in the library (ALL research
MUST be done at this point)
December 21: Creation of outline
December 23: Begin 1st draft of essay after a few mini lessons
All through January: mini lessons/revising/conferences/peer revisions
January 25-26: Typing will begin on final draft
Questions to research:
1) Describe your Greek god/goddess (choose at least 3 to concentrate on)
a. Special Personality Traits
b. Special Powers
c. Symbols that relate to him/here
d. Describe strengths/weaknesses
e. Physical Characteristics
f. Any special ways they are celebrated
g. Any other important information about him/her
2) Background
a. Explain the background and family life of your Greek god/goddess
b. Explain their origin
3) Compare/Contrast (choose one)
a. Compare and Contrast your Greek god/goddess to another Greek
god/goddess—you can talk with someone else in the class or research on your own
b. Compare and contrast your Greek god/goddess to a real life hero today
4) Explain how Greek mythology influenced Greek society
a. You can explain this generally
b. You can explain this specifically, in regards to your specific Greek
god/goddess/figure
c. You can combine both a and b.
