World History Standard 10.2

Students will compare the Glorious Revolution of England, the American Revolution and the

French Revolution and the enduring effects on the worldwide political expectations for selfgovernment and individual liberty.

Expectations of learning: o Major ideas of philosophers and their effect on the revolutions o Principles of the Magna Carta, English Bill of Rights, American Declaration of

Independence, French Declaration of Rights of Man and the Citizen, and the U.S. Bill of

Rights o Influence of the American Revolution on other world-wide independence movements o French transition from a constitutional monarchy to a democratic despotism to the

Napoleonic empire o Spread of nationalism across Europe and the effects of the Congress of Vienna

How did the early revolutions lay the foundation for the on-going struggle for selfgovernment, individual liberty and human rights?
