Position: Intern - GTA
Job Description: Internship, Part-Time (10-15 hr.’s per week, flex-time)
Location: Buffalo NY
Reporting to: Joe Donahue, Andrew Thompson National Account Managers, Experient, Inc.

Compensation – nonpaid internship. Work related expenses such as travel to client
meetings/events will be reimbursed.

Experient, a Maritz Travel Company, is a global leader and one of the most respected companies
in the meetings and events industry. In 2015 the company will contract more than 10,000 events
and 4 Million+ room nights for its client’s meeting, event and incentive travel needs including 37
of the TSE Gold 100 trade shows and Fortune 100 companies like Disney, Microsoft, Walmart
and MacDonald’s to name a few. Experient’s core services include meeting planning, meeting
management, event planning, site sourcing, hotel contract negotiation, registration, housing, and
lead retrieval services for corporate, association, tradeshow and government clients.
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
Through hands-on experience, the successful candidate will further develop their knowledge,
competencies, and experience in the meetings and event business by researching, developing
and implementing key components of Experient’s plan to secure large scale Canadian events,
conferences, conventions, meetings, trade and consumer shows as clients.
While the Intern will be involved primarily in business development related activity, the breadth
and scope of Experient’s operations will expose them to all aspects of meetings and events, and
provide an unparalleled opportunity to interact with and learn from some of the world’s top
meeting professionals.
Your role will be to:
 Research key components of the sales & marketing plan including gathering data on the
internet and by phone (no selling)
 Assist with client discovery meetings, proposals, presentations, and RFP responses
 Complete internal document templates involved in sourcing and contracting event sites,
registration & housing, AV, etc.
 Contribute to sourcing evaluation process and client recommendations
 Develop a continuing communications plan using e-mail and social media to support
client education and development, and make recommendations on channels, timing,
content and effectiveness tracking, and develop an activation plan.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have many of the following skills and attributes:
 Currently enrolled in and pursuing a degree or certificate in event management,
hospitality, travel & tourism, marketing, communications or business
 Previous work or volunteer experience in meetings, events, entertainment, hospitality or
marketing/communications agency is highly desirable
 Exceptional verbal, written communication and presentation skills (fluency in English is
required)
 A keen eye for detail, a “can do” attitude, and willingness to pitch-in as needed
 An interest in learning more about the business development side of the meetings and
events industry would be nice but not necessary
 Access to a computer with a reliable internet connection
 Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is
required. (Knowledge of WordPress, social media platforms, and/or graphic design will be
considered assets.)
HOURS
The Intern can expect to work ½ time with the National Account Managers and ½ time remotely.
Depending on your availability you may be asked to accompany the NAM to client meetings
within the GTA.
