PEP - What stock would you recommend instead? (Coke?)

Michael Kozemchak

PEP – President Zein Abdalla is retiring from PepsiCo on Dec 31. How will this affect the company?

Andrew Hockey

PEP – What company or type of company would be a good replacement for Pepsico in the Regents

Portfolio? What type of revenue source within the Beverages, Snacks, Cereals, or Grains industries should be targeted?

Jordan Fuentes

PEP: I know Pepsi is moving toward healthier drinks and snacks (e.g., Tea and coffee drinks instead of sugary soda, baked instead of fried snacks), I’m assuming you do not think that they are competitive enough with the current health-food market, why is this (especially with Frito Lay being a subsidiary and one of the top snack companies in the world)?

Christian LANG

 PepsiCo (PEP)

Why should we sell Pepsi stocks, when it has been mentioned in your report that the acquisition of Frito

Lay is seen as a major strength of the company?

Do you just think that we should sell Pepsi stocks because of declines in demand due to a more health focused consumer trend?

James A. Dominguez

PepsiCo (PEP):

What specific products or industries is Pepsi looking to promote or enter in order to combat the decrease in demand of its products ?

What strategies or positions will Pepsi take to combat the markets Coca Cola is currently dominating?

How will entering and sharing such markets affect the company’s financials?

John Cordova

PEPSICO

There seems to be substantial promise in its snack segment as PEPSICO has been partnering with restaurant chains like Buffalo Wild Wings and Taco Bell (Doritos Locos Tacos) that Coca Cola can’t offer. Do you think there is potential for growth in this area?

Armin Triendl

PepsiCo (PEP):

The report mentions that there would be opportunity to growth with a healthier product line under a different brand name. Has Pepsi considered doing something like that or have the looked into opportunities in doing that. For example McDonalds was one of the main investors in Chipotle in 1998 but is now divested from Chipotle since 2006.

Stefanie Stebegg

PepsiCo (PEP)

Why is your focus on Pepsi stocks more about the analysis of consumer trends and the new healthy way of life and not about their good market numbers (quantitative inputs such as forecast numbers, rising in stock price, EPS and revenues of the company)?

Antonio Trujillo

PEP

Has the California drought affected the price of agricultural inputs to PepsiCo ?

Tyler Victor

PepsiCo o Does PepsiCo’s latest attempt at becoming “healthy” (Pepsi True) change its position in the industry?

Katherine Hollingsworth

PepsiCo (PEP)

First, I really liked reading the arguments in this report. It’s difficult to make the recommendation that you have. They have recently done well, they are valued well, and they had a decent 3 rd quarter report. I believe you are right that if the regents were to sell, there could be a risk of possible turnaround and an opportunity missed. Why then suggest a hold rather than a sell?

The second part of that question, based on their 10-K and Earnings Call transcripts for their Q3s, do you find their future plans will not help a turn around? You’ve written about what they are not doing, but are they doing anything right that can help this situation?

Frito-Lay was a good acquisition but performed a 3% organic growth instead of 4-5% as estimated.

However, Frito-Lay brought over 20% of their revenue in. Are they planning to use Frito to grow?

Taha Majbar

Pepsico:

How is the company responding to the launch of Coca Cola Life, the soda made out of stevia ? What were the sales of Pepsi with real sugar (limited edition during the summer) ?

Do you think that the company can switch the business from products that the market point out as unhealthy, to a more healthy selection ?

Gabriel Aragon

PepsiCo: What other stock would you recommend purchasing instead of PepsiCo?

Jeffrey Alberti

Pepsi:

So you say that Pepsi may not be the correct stock within the sector, and one of the reasons is because of the success of Coca Cola- Do you believe that Coca Cola would be a better investment?

John Kapuranis

7. PepsiCo (PEP):

With two CEO's and and the president of PepsiCo stepping down and moving to new company's, what does that do to the company? Did this have to do with why your recommendation for a SELL was necessary? Junk food is decreasing, what will PepsiCo do to recover?

Justin Fouts

1.

PepsiCo (PEP) – With the growth potential of FLNA won’t this provide a new opportunity to compete with Coca-Cola outside of the soft drink realm?

David Trimmer

PepsiCo:

When discussing whether or not to buy or sell the company, the company is said to have a high beta, and yet you are saying we should invest in a higher beta. Why is that?

Dylan Gregory

VII.

Pepsi Co (PEP) Sell, to Antonio Trujillo:

You indicated PepsiCo major products are facing declines in demand, due to health focused consumer trends. Have you seen evidence of this decreased demand in PepsiCo historical earnings? If demand is decreasing then its likely sales would also be decreasing.

You indicated that PepsiCo low return vs the sector indicates its being outperformed by other companies.

What differentiator do you think is enabling competitors to outperform PepsiCo?

“Many of the company’s major products are facing declines in demand, mainly due to health focused consumer trends.” “The low return vs the sector is indicative that it is being outperformed, and that a different company would have a higher return.” http://www.unm.edu/~maj/Security%20Analysis/Fall%202014%20Analyst%20Reports/PEP.pdf

PepsiCo (PEP): If we shouldn’t be invested in PepsiCo within that industry, in which company should we invest?
