DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT SERVICES For Reference Only CLASS CODE: 8069 PAY GRADE: 012 CLASS TITLE: CORRECTIONAL SENTENCE TECHNICIAN ALLOCATION FACTOR(S) This is complex and technical work involving the interpretation of commitment documents and the auditing of automated data in the central office of the Department of Corrections. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: (Note: The examples of work as listed in this class specification are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. Examples of work performed are not to be used for allocation purposes.) Receives and audits commitment documents from the reception centers and determines legality of sentence. Audits sentencing provisions on new commitments and verifies that data entered on-line from reception centers is accurately projecting overall sentence structure. Communicates with clerks of circuit courts, state attorneys, and other criminal justice officials as needed to clarify sentencing provisions and insure accurate interpretation of judge's instructions. Adjusts components of automated sentence data when necessary to insure compliance with court intent. Checks commitment documents for applicability of new legislation on sentence structure and adjusts coded data as necessary. Notifies other offices when information pertaining to escapees, youthful offenders, detainees, or county jail sentences may have impact in those sections. Computes tentative expiration dates of certain sentences for law enforcement agencies upon request. Applies new instructions to interpretation and auditing of commitment documents upon revision of procedures dealing with sentence structure. Responds to telephone inquiries regarding sentence structure and statutes and/or case law which affect establishment of such sentence structure. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Three years of secretarial or clerical experience. College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for each year of the required work experience. Vocational/technical training in the area of secretarial science or office/business studies can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for each year of the required work experience.
