Minutes of BWNW Retreat September 27, 2015 (from notes by facilitators) How can BWNW be more effective by: 1. Attracting more members? 2. Collaborating with other groups? *refers to number of “dots” applied by participants, i.e. interest in that subject 15 minutes each meeting to discuss a reading from the handbook**** Collaborate with one or more large organizations (e.g.Rotary) Collaborate with Rotary** Provide materials and people that will provide transformational experiences in the larger organizations Create shorter learning sessions targeted at specific topics/community concerns** Quarterly potlucks with WAND Host full family events Collaborate with the Peace Choir BW table at next tail gating day Coach community leaders in dealing with sticky topics Seek ideas from groups outside BWNW * Work with students to host an event at UO/LCC/NCU * Common (CE) training to be a learning community ** Sponsor a paper for a student Brainstorm-How can we reach/attract more people to be involved ******* Contacting Mailing list members Requiring study before joining Prioritizing our activities * Glue: improved communication re: our activities to celebrate and inform one another ** What are (is) the purpose of each meeting? * Looking at violent language in our organization (Learing from others) * Will putting energy into new curriculum be worthwhile? * Collaborate with local groups to spread message (create synergy) Reaching college aged people and younger (generational differences) Creating learning communities by changing internal structure to foster collaboration Rotary Action for Peace, World Beyond War Link up with other groups ******** BW has a different message using study series group * Dealing with lack of time to do series How do we create transformational moments?**** Things we were surprised by in survey: I am a pacifist I liked proposed changes in verbiage (Roses) How come we don’t talk about this (above) at meetings? Some responses were as negative as mine “No to fund raising” Our fledgling group is staying alive (2) Our greatest accomplishment People pleasing Things we strongly disagree with: Re-establishing connection with legatees (takes a lot of time and effort better put elsewhere) American are too distracted and indifferent to care about our message BW is our major passion Use of violent language (designating enemies) Feeling unsupported by group Dealing with so many thing/areas * BW’s DNA must change
