아래 편지 내용은 제가 Leah 와의 첫 펜팔 때 보낸 편지입니다.
Dear Leah
Hi, Leah! I’m Seok Hyeon Ryu from Korea. I see many foreign friends have hard time with
pronouncing my Korean name, so just call me ‘Josh’.
It’s been two weeks since I entered high school. Unlike other ordinary high schools in Korea,
Gimhae Foreign Language High School, my school, focuses on studying foreign languages, as
you can see from its name. School offers students various programs to help them learn
English better. One of the programs was having pen pal friends overseas, and I applied for it.
And I got your email adress!
To introduce myself briefly, I’m Seok Hyeon Ryu, or just call me Josh(as I mentioned above).
Of course, I’m freshman in Gimhae Foreign Language High school and I’m 17 years old. I
really want to thank my teacher for giving me this priceless chance. I wanted to have pen
pals since I was young, so I’m really looking forward to having reply from you. If you want to
be friends with me, or want to know about me more, plz don’t hesitate to email me. I’m
always welcome! Or, if you’re interested in Korea, I can introduce lots of Korean culture to
you, including K-POPS! Coz I’m a member of ‘Voluntary Agency Network of Korea(VANK)’.
My role is to introduce Korea to foreign friends.
Sorry for my poor English. Though you might have hard time understanding what I’m talking
about as there might be some grammatical errors, Please understand even if I make a

You've said that you like music. What sort or genre of music particularly do you like? I can tell or

Also, I'm surprised that we are born in the same year. My birthday is March 27th 1996. Of course,

이후에 몇 차례 편지를 주고받다가, 한국의 문화와 자연환경에 대한 이야기가 나왔습니다. 제가
한국의 주요 도시들을 소개하는 글을 써 보내 주었습니다.
Our country, South Korea, is no longer the Korea it was. Korea is in no way an isolated region.
More and more foreign tourists are visiting our country. Maps with its fascinating mixture of the
traditional and the modern, well-preserved beauty of nature are available. I’m sure you’re familiar
with Samsung, LG, and Hyundai etc. No wonder tourists from all over the world are flocking to
this beautiful country. Here are lists of cities which are recommended for traveling.
The first city I’m going to introduce is Seoul. Being the capital of Korea, Seoul is the no.1 city in
Korea and one of Asia’s most popular destinations. It is the political and economic nerve center of
Korea. Modern skyscraper is well-harmonized with ancient architecture such as Gyeongbokgung
Palace, Changdeokgung Palace, Changgyeonggung Palace, and Gyeonghuigung Palace, etc. 10
millions of people live in Seoul. Panoramic view of the
Seoul city from Mt. Namsan can’t be explained with
words. I’ve visited Mt. Namsan once before. It was
evening when sun was going down. If I remember
correctly, fog interrupted my sight but even, the view of
Seoul from Mt. Namsan during evening was awesome.
The spectacular views stay in my mind. Also, I went to
Panoramic view of Seoul from Mt. Namsan
Cheonggyechon. Many citizens of Seoul and Gyeong-gi
Province with tourists were there. Cheonggyechon is small creek that goes along the center of
Seoul. It was well-decorated than before because a project recovering Cheonggyechon was
carried out by the new government. I still remember, one little spoiled boys was playing near the
Cheonggyechon. Suddenly, he slipped and fell in. He was safe because the depth of
Cheonggyechon was up to his waist. The time this happened was winter, so I wondered if he
would catch a cold.
Hauendae Beach
Next, I’ll introduce Busan, the port city and the second
largest metropolis. Waterways have been the lifeline of
civilization in Busan. The city, Busan, has its own unique
provincialism compared with other provinces. Citizens of
Busan truly welcome travelers from abroad. There are many
famous sights in Busan to visit.
You can’t exclude Haeundae Beach when we talk about Busan. Haeundae Beach excels in the
beauty compared with other foreign famous beaches. Every summer, all tourists from all regions
flock to this beach. You will regret if you don’t see Haeundae beach. Other places to go are
Jagalchi Seafood Market, BEXCO, etc. These places also so famous that many festivals are being
held. I joined Science Festival in BEXCO when I was young. I learned many things and it was
memorable I’m sure you will also make a lot of memories in those places.
All Koreans are willing to visit Jeju Island, where we can feel an exotic mood. Nature made
majestic spots by itself as the time goes by. Jeju is a magical place known for 3 things: roaring
winds, magnificent rocks, and women, since there is a bigger population of women compared to
men. Jeju has the highest mountain in South Korea, the Mt. Hanla, which is filled with over 1,800
species of vegetation, scores of deer, and an ecosystem that will surely amaze all.
If somebody visits Jeju, one should visit Jungmun resort. It is the big tourism placethe largest
resort in Korea. It is located on the seashore of Jungmun. In 1971, it was designated an
International Tour Site. In the Resort, there are many interesting sites to visit, such as Pacific Land,
Yeomiji Arboretum, fishing village for tourists, Seonimgyo Bridge, Cheonjeyeon waterfall, and
Jungmun Beach. Also there are several hotels such as Shilla Hotel, Lotte Hotel, and the Hyatt
Hotel that are internationally well known because celebrities often visit from abroad. This is the
biggest Tourist complex in Korea.
There are so many cities to visit more, however it’s so numerous that I introduced to you some
of it. You will be fascinated with the beauty of Korea once you visit. The best way to spend your
holiday is to come and visit Korea. Korea must be your first choice. See you soon.

Yees! I really like Kpop since 5years ago haha. I like Jang Nara for the first time, but right now I
like almost all of korean artist.
And I've participated in dance competition, and I was danced Rainbow song hahaha *so
embarrassing :))
I really like to hear piano instrument, but sadly I can't playing piano haha. From when you're learn
piano? Is almost of Korean people can playing piano?
I have so many question for you hehe

Do you like K-Pop? Yay! If you tell me your favorite artists, I can send you some songs of that
artists. I have some of it :)
In case of piano, I learned it when I was 5. I learned it until the age of 7. It's been a long time
since I didn't play it. Now, what I can play is 'Summer' and 'Spring' by Hisaishi Joe, 'River flows in
you' by Korean pianist Yiruma, and 'He's a pirate' (this is the ost of 'pirates of the carribbean'). Not
all Koreans know how to play the piano, yet some of my friends know how to play it^^ I want to
practice playing piano more, but as I'm living in dormitory it is impossible :'( so sad thing...

Heeei^^ your english is good, you know. Haha. Actually I'm still learning too.
I can't understand what is the meaning of foreign language high school. Is that your school is
international school? Me too, actually my school is international standard, but I still have a
problem if I have to learn math with english haha.
Hmm.. I like almost of all korean artist, but I really like IU ^^ do you like her too?
Right now I'm watching piano cover-se7en when I can't sing, from you tube . Its so wonderful. I
always admire piano player.
I know the song "River flow in you" I really really like that song, I've heard my friend is played
that song with piano in music room. And the song He's a pirate I've played that song with
angklung instrument. Angklung is my hometown instrument hehe :)
