IMPACT OF LOCATION, CLIMATE, AND PHYSICAL CHARACTER ON SOUTHERN AND EASTERN ASIA India- Most people live along the fertile river valleys and the great rivers. The climate of India is affected by seasonal winds called monsoons. China- Most of China’s one billion people live in the mild and temperate climate of China. This is where you find the great river valleys and most fertile farmland. Japan- an island nation of the far eastern edge of East Asia, has climate affected by ocean currents. The warmer parts of the country are able to have longer growing seasons for farmers. Japan experiences typhoons. North Korea has short summers and long winters. The land is mountainous and not as heavily populated as South Korea South Korea- has fewer mountains and a milder climate than North Korea. Many South Korea’s live in Seoul, South Korea’s largest city. Farming is more widely practiced here than in the mountainous north. Vietnam- has a warm and tropical climate that is conducive to rice crops. 90% of the worlds rice is grown in Vietnam.
