This document aims to provide you with the
information you require for the volunteer
opportunities available at Turnham Green’s
outdoor theatre day. Come and join us for magical
outdoor theatre performances suitable for all the
family.
Following the success of their 2014 summer tour in Hounslow, London Contemporary Theatre present
Kenneth Grahame’s classic “The Wind in the Willows” (suitability ages 4+) and William Shakespeare’s
hilarious comedy of love, “Twelfth Night” (suitability ages 8+).
London Contemporary Theatre is committed to creating exciting, fast-paced theatre. Using live original
music they strive to bring classical theatre to contemporary audiences. The music will all be played
acoustically and there will be no amplification used for announcements or any other form of noise.
The performance of “The Wind in the Willows” will start at approximately 2pm and finish at approximately
4pm. The performance of “Twelfth Night” will start at approximately 7pm and finish at approximately 9pm.
House rules
All volunteers will work in two’s and will be assigned specific roles and responsibilities to ensure a well
organised and successful event. Each Volunteer will receive a full briefing of their specific role and duties
throughout the event.
A time table of the day’s activities has been included in this pack. All volunteers will need to ensure they
read the time table and public programme to acquire good knowledge of the event site layout and activities
taking place throughout the day.
All volunteers are required to have the following skills;




A polite, friendly and professional manner.
Good communication and social skills in order to interact with event staff and attendees.
Enjoy working as part of a team and being respectful to colleagues
Able to listen and follow instructions e.g. Health and Safety and lost child procedures (about which
you will be briefed on arrival).
VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES – The following two roles available on the day;
a) HOSTS/FRONT OF HOUSE: For this role you will have to like engaging with people, you will need
excellent communication skills. Hosts are part of the event and should be helpful and courteous to the
public.
What will front house staff be doing on the day?
Carillion Integrated Services on behalf of the London Borough of Hounslow, prides itself on excellent
customer service and values the feedback from event attendees. Hosts will be assigned to key roles in
assisting the information point, welcoming attendees to the event, distributing brochures and informing the
general public as well as speaking to attendees about their feedback on the event and inviting them to fill
out questionnaires.
When will Hosts need to be available?
Hosts will be asked to arrive at 13:15pm for their briefing. Their shift will start at 13.30pm. The event will
finish at 21.00pm, hosts will be requested to remain onsite until 21.30pm. There will be regular breaks
throughout the day and volunteers will work in shifts to ensure that everyone has sufficient rest times.
b) STEWARDS: to ensure the smooth running of the event, ensuring attendees gather on the lawns and
oversee the entrance, exit and specific event points – stations will be outlined in the confirmation email.
What will the Stewards be doing on the day?
This role will involve tasks such as managing entrance and exit points, managing the car parking and
general welfare on the day and directing people to the correct area of the park.
When will the Stewards need to be available?
Hosts will be asked to arrive at 13:15pm for their briefing. Their shift will start at 13.30pm. The event will
finish at 21.00pm, hosts will be requested to remain onsite until 21.45pm. There will be regular breaks
throughout the day and volunteers will work in shifts to ensure that everyone has sufficient rest times.
Please note: Rest breaks will be factored in to these working hours.

ARRIVAL TIMES
Please arrive at your agreed briefing time, please allow time for travel and do not be late. The meeting point
will be outside the information tent (please refer to map for location marked ‘Volunteers Meeting Point’).
What to clothing wear?
Please ensure you wear appropriate clothing for the day, ‘smart but casual’ is the general consensus. We
suggest sensible shoes and in case of extreme weather some kind of sun protection or waterproofs.
Volunteers will be provided a hi-visibility jacket were necessary.
