Science Scope and Sequence - Chemistry Chemistry Quarter 1 Laboratory Safety X Atomic and Molecular Structure X Quarter 2 Chemical Bonding Gases and their Properties Quarter 3 Quarter 4 X X Solutions X Laboratory-centered, this course will include a study of: the nature of chemistry; matter; chemical and physical properties and changes; atomic structure and the periodic table; bonding and nomenclature; reactions; stoichiometry; equilibrium; gases; and solutions. Emphasis is placed on the utilization of mathematical, analytical, data acquisition, and communication skills as well as interdisciplinary approaches to discovery. Quarter 1: Atomic and Molecular Structure Ca: The student will demonstrate an understanding of how scientific inquiry and technological design, including mathematical analysis, can be used appropriately to pose questions, seek answers, and develop solutions. Indicators Ca.1 - Ca.6, Ca.8 Cb: Students will demonstrate an understanding of atomic structure and nuclear processes. Indicators Cb.1-Cb.6 Quarter 2: Chemical Bonding Cb: Students will demonstrate an understanding of atomic structure and nuclear processes. Indicators Cb.1, Cb.3 Cc: The student will demonstrate an understanding of the structures and classifications of chemical compounds. Indicators Cc.1 - Cc.5, Cc.8 Cd.4: Apply the concept of moles to determine the number of particles of a substance in a chemical reaction, the percent composition of a representative compound, the mass proportions, and the mole-mass relationships. Ce.1: Explain the effects of the intermolecular forces on the different phases of matter. Quarter 3: Gases and their Properties Cd: The student will demonstrate an understanding of the types, the causes, and the effects of chemical reactions.
