Community Connections 2012-2013 (Spanish 2) This is an ongoing homework assignment for the entire school year. You may complete these assignments BEFORE the due date. Goal: for you to use language within and beyond the school setting Guidelines: During each quarter, complete one activity from the column for 10 effort points. Prepare the dish, bring in a copy of the recipe in Spanish, and share the food with the class. **Don’t forget silverware, plates, etc. Find a short article in Spanish and print it out. 2 Print out & complete the article worksheet from my website. Borrow a ¿Qué tal? magazine from the teacher. 3 4 5 6 Print out & complete the ‘Que Tal’ worksheet from my website. Check out a children’s book in Spanish from the public library or borrow one from the teacher. Print out & complete the book worksheet from my website. Go out on the town! Look for five or more signs or advertisements in Spanish in our community. Take pictures! (Internet pictures don’t count!) Email them to me or print them out. Find and print the Spanish lyrics to a song. Highlight 10 words you know. Circle 5 words you don’t know, look them up in a dictionary, and write the definition. Include the title/artist. WRITING SPEAKING LISTENING Write an email to a student in another Spanish class (at least 10 sentences with 3 or more questions). Use accents and punctuation. Hand in a copy of your email and response email you got from your friend. Include your friend’s name and teacher/class also. Go to a local authentic Latin American restaurant and order your food in Spanish. You must use the “Restaurante” sheet (Find it on my website.). Write a summary of your experience and hand it in with the slip. Find a popular Spanish song and bring it in to play for the class. Be ready to play the song (have the Youtube link or put it on your I-pod). Turn in an explanation of what the song is about (5+ sentences) and why you chose the song. Send me an email in Spanish about your week. Write at least 8 sentences. Make sure to use accents! Find information on my website for accents. Bring in 5 items with Spanish on their packaging & present the words that you recognized from each item to the class. (2-3 words per item….don’t forget to practice pronunciation!) Attend a Zumba class, aqua Zumba or Latin Dance lesson. (Can be done in pairs!) Count how many songs were in Spanish and write a 5-6 sentence summary about your experience and what kind of songs you heard. Present photos or a PowerPoint presentation to the class about a trip you have taken to a Spanish-speaking location. Include a list of at least 5 words/phrases related to your trip. Call 720-865-8500 (Press 5) to hear the Spanish story of the day. Give the title of the story and write 5 words you understood and 5 new words you learned (look up the definitions in a dictionary). Have a parent/guardian introduce themselves to me in Spanish at conferences in March. (Print out parent sheet from my website) Watch a telenovela in Spanish. Write down 5 phrases in Spanish that you understood and a summary (in English) of what happened during the show. Watch a movie that relates to Spanish-speaking culture. Create a Venn diagram and compare and contrast yourself to the main character. Write 15 phrases or descriptions in Spanish on the diagram. Make a crossword puzzle of the current vocab list. Use at least 20 words and give a clue/description (not the translation!). Extra point if you give the descriptions in Spanish! Write a poem or short story in Spanish that includes vocabulary we have studied this year so far. Your writing must include at least 8 sentences. Draw a comic strip and narrate with at least 8 sentences in Spanish. (It should focus on a theme/be logical.) Leave me a 1-2 minute voicemail message in Spanish about your day. Don’t forget to include your name. Can only be completed after 5:00 pm 221-7666 ext 2179 Make a traditional dish from a Spanish speaking country. Bring the food to share with the class. Write down 5 of the ingredients in Spanish and tell them to the class. *Bring utensils/serving ware. Interview another Spanish teacher by asking 5 questions using the Ud. form. Turn in a copy of the questions and the answers you heard. (Questions must be at least 5 words each.) Listen to 10 minutes of 1480 AM “La Movida” radio. Write down at least 10 Spanish words that you understood. Write a 4-5 sentence summary (in English) of what you heard.
