Topics include creating styles, using basic and advanced techniques of back combing, up sweeps, and braiding. Prerequisite: As required by program. Corequisite: COS 144 and/or as required by program. Course Grade Assessment Students will be graded on their knowledge and theory pertaining to the study of hair design. Departmental Assessment of Learning Outcomes 1. The student will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the five elements of hair design by scoring a minimum of 75% on selected questions on a written exam. 2. The student will demonstrate knowledge of the five principles of hair design by scoring a minimum of 75% on selected questions on a written exam. 3. The student will demonstrate knowledge of the different facial shapes by scoring 75% on selected questions on written exams. 4. The student will demonstrate the knowledge of design styles to enhance or camouflage facial features by scoring 75% on selected questions on written exams. 5. The student will demonstrate design considerations for men by scoring 75% on selected questions on written exams. Use of Assessment Findings During the Fall In-service of the year following a scheduled review of this course, a committee will review all course assessment materials submitted by the instructors and division chair. The committee will send a report of any recommended curriculum changes to the division chair, who will then submit them to the Student Learning Outcomes Committee, a copy will be filed with the Office of Institutional Planning and Assessment. Attendance Students are expected to attend all classes for which they are registered. Students who are unable to attend class regularly, regardless of the reason or circumstance, should withdraw from that class before poor attendance interferes with the student’s ability to achieve the objectives required in the course. Withdrawal from class can affect eligibility for federal financial aid.
