New! Playwrighting, Professorships, Healing through the Arts, and hosting a Podcast Series
Congratulations to Lynn Nottage on her Pulitzer Prize for RUINED. I saw Lynn at a booksigning at the Drama Bookshop in October.
She signed my copy, “Thank you for your guiding spirit.”
I dramaturged Lynn’s play LAS MENINAS for the Crossroads Genesis Festival in 2000.
It is now published in the volume CRUMBS FROM THE TABLE OF JOY AND OTHER
PLAYS (TCG).
Playwrighting
The leading American actress Kathleen Chalfant starred in my short play AND THEN I WENT INSIDE at the
Cherry Lane Theatre in New York City. I then wrote a trilogy called THE STACY PLAY, which I am offering
for production. It includes my plays YOU ARE HERE and CODE OF LIFE, which take place before and
after AND THEN I WENT INSIDE.
Julia Miles hosted a reading of my play ANOTHER WHITE SHIRT at her home in Manhattan. The play
features four women who have lost the men they love, and explores how the body heals from grief. Julia said
that it is ready for production.
I also wrote two short plays: MARIA, THE DAY AFTER a one-page, non-musical sequel to WEST SIDE
STORY, and MORE THAN LIFE ITSELF, a story about a man, a woman, a dog and two sets of ear buds.
Dramaturging
I dramaturged a host of new plays and musicals, all over the country and the world – including New York City,
Los Angeles, Houston, Melbourne, Australia. Broadway performer George Marcy (Bernardo in the original
WEST SIDE STORY) performed his autobiographical musical THE BALLAD OF GEORGIE PORGIE at
Don’t Tell Mama in early November (Musical Direction by Bob Goldstone). Chita Rivera and Carole
Lawrence, Broadway’s original Anita and Maria, sat front row center. What a great night!
In preparation for publication, I edited a set of plays by Yvette Heyliger. Her drama WWJD? had a sold-out run
at the Billie Holliday Theatre in Brooklyn in December. Tom Cavanaugh’s DUNG BEETLE is about an
agoraphobic scientist.
Carrie Robbins’ THE DEATH & LIFE OF DR. CUTTER, was read at the Abingdon Theatre.
And Barry Manheimer’s tango noir mystery ARM CANDY will open in Los Angeles
on March 18, 2010.
Literary Management
I am now actively seeking to place Noah Lukeman’s THE TRAGEDY OF MACBETH, PART TWO – THE
SEED OF BANQUO. This marvelous drama has been published by Pegasus Books and will come out in
paperback on April 23, 2010. I have sent it to all of my contacts in New York City and all over the world to gain
a production. Email me at hamiltonlit@hotmail.com for more information.
Professional
I now proudly serve as an Officer (Co-Secretary) of the League of Professional Theatre Women. I also serve on
the Mentoring Committee.
Podcast Innovations
I launched TheatreNow!, a production of Hamilton Dramaturgy, an oral history series of important
contemporary theatre women. Quiara Allegria Hudes (Playwright/Librettist), Clare Lautier (Actress) and Ruth
Margraff (Musician/Writer) gave fascinating insights into their artistic processes. The podcasts are available at
www.hamiltonlit.com
In 2010 the LPTW will launch an oral history series of its members, which I will host.
Professing
I taught the first class in dramaturgy offered at Muhlenberg College (ranked #4 in the nation.)
Lehigh University appointed me an Adjunct Professor of Theatre and I taught 3,000 years of theatre history,
from Ritual through the Renaissance.
Healing Through the Arts
I gave two internet interviews on the topic of Healing Through the Arts.
I gave writing exercises, and wrote a series of articles on healing through my own writing journeys this year
which were published in many venues.

full productions and three staged readings. The New Voices Festival, held in October, was a very successful
event.
