There are some normal things about me that you should know: I like the environment. I am efficient. I am a bird enthusiast. I dislike taking the stairs. Sometimes in life, there just happens to be an extraordinary number of circumstances that occur at the same time which makes you question what is normal. Here is one such story: Recently, I had got into cooking and in order to be a proper cook, you need a few common tools of the trade. One of those things is a chef's knife which I did not have. One day, after work, I decided to stop by Zenari's to see what they had in stock. The selection of knives was incredible and you might think that shopping for knives might be boring but it was not dull at all. I finally decided on a very nice chef's knife. It came in a plastic case but I believed in not polluting the environment so I asked the cashier to wrap it up in recyclable paper. By the time I was done buying my knife, it was late at night and it started to rain. Luckily, I was wearing jeans and a hoodie and I draped the hoodie over my head as I walked outside. Since it was so late, I wanted to get home right away and over the time I had been living in Edmonton, I knew of some shortcuts through back alleys that I could take that would get me home faster. As I turned into one alley, I noticed that there was a woman in a trench coat walking ahead of me. I thought it was strange that the woman was taking a path that wasn't well-lit and being the good samaritan that I am, I decided to walk a respectable distance away from her while keeping an eye on her. It's possible that she thought someone was following her because she started walking faster and faster. I was slightly annoyed because that meant I would have to walk faster to keep up and somehow, the rain, for lack of a better term, melted away the recyclable paper that was covering my knife. There I was, hoodie over my head, in a not so welllit back alley, holding a knife, walking quickly to keep up with this woman. It turns out that the woman lived in the same building that I did. As I walked into the same multi-story building she did, she had her hands clutched closely around her trench coat and she hurried through the front door. I think she was in a hurry to get home like me because the moment she saw me enter the same building, she ran for the first floor elevator and furiously punched at the buttons. I hated taking the stairs and so there I was, at the end of the hall, running for the elevator. It was slightly dangerous to run down the hall with the knife pointed up towards my face so I decided that I would point it down so that if anything, it would jab my leg instead.Weird logic I know, but I didn't have a lot of time to think it over. "No WAIT. WAIT!" I yelled as I ran down the hall to catch the elevator. The elevator door was closing slowly and I knew I wouldn't make it in time so I used my knife to try to trigger the sensor. At the same time, I banged on the elevator door furiously. "Let me on the elevator!" and for some strange reason, the woman started panicking and screaming. "Oh no, is she in trouble?" I thought to myself, "Is there someone else on the elevator with her?" Quickly, I pulled out the knife from the door and watched what floor the elevator ended up on. It landed on 4 and I quickly darted into the staircase to run up to the 4th floor. I opened the 4th floor staircase door with a flourish with knife in hand, ready to save the woman's life from any pursuers. Again, I saw the woman at the end of the hall and she was fumbling with her keys to get into her place. I walked slowly down the hall trying to see if there was someone following this woman. Finally, she found the key, got into her place, slammed the door and I heard the deadbolt snap into place. Again, being the good citizen that I am, I put my ear up to the door to see if everything was okay. I put my ear to the door and could hear the unmistakable sounds of sirens. "Yes, my job is done here". Moments later, I was being detained and questioned by an officer."No, I wasn't following this woman home, I was trying to keep an eye out for her." "No, I said I love murders of crows" "I wasn't trying to stab her, I was trying to trigger the sensor on the door" "Officer, please, you have got to believe me." It was all just a big misunderstanding.
