1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
Reporting to the Manager, Creative Services, within the University of Nevada, Reno’s office of
Integrated Marketing, the Videographer produces professional-quality marketing and recruitment
videos to support University objectives. This position requires strong storytelling/scripting abilities
as well as pre- and post-production skills. In addition, this position oversees the department’s
inventory of photo and video equipment and manages student workers as needed for video
productions.
2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide
enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage
first with heading and then bulleted information).
30% - Planning and Preparing for Video Shoots
 Conceptualize assigned projects into scripts, storyboards and other creative plans
 Recruit colleagues and student workers as necessary to aid in video production
 Pre-interview and carefully select video subjects
 Determine appropriate settings/ locations and coordinate other preparatory needs
50% - Video Production
 Direct all aspects of video shoots, including photography, audio, lighting, blocking and
other essential elements
 Edit video footage to produce video projects, using current, nonlinear editing processes
and software
 Produce various length video projects for a variety of mediums and audiences
 Export finished projects in a variety of formats
10% - Organization of video footage and maintain release forms
 Log footage from video shoots into an organized repository
 Make video footage available to internal and external constituents
 Obtain and maintain photo/video release forms for talent
10% - Process and Equipment Oversight
 Track and maintain the department’s video-related equipment and software
 Create and maintain a video production process to standardize workflow
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
While the department’s specific goals and strategies are set by team leadership, the
Videographer is free to make independent decisions regarding structure, presentation and other
creative and editorial decisions provided they fall within the direction provided. The Manager,
Creative Services, assigns projects, establishes goals, and makes budgetary decisions.
