Description
The Compaq LN32 Laser Printer offers speed, high performance, and complete interoperability for Compaq
Tru64, OpenVMS, Windows, and Windows NT environments.
Users will appreciate the Compaq LN32 Laser Printer’s fast 32 page per minute output, and the resolution
of up to 1200 x 1200 dpi at rated speed. Adobe PostScript 3 provides increased font capacity, graphic
definition, and precise representation of complex images.
Users can customize the Compaq LN32 Laser Printer to meet changing needs. Modular paper-handling
options offer the flexibility to go from standard output to production-level duplexing, and collating and
stapling of a variety of paper sizes and stocks.
Support for all operating environments
The LN32 printer is fully supported in virtually all environments: OpenVMS (VAX and Alpha), Tru64
UNIX, and Windows NT. For OpenVMS environments, as well as PC and Macintosh systems (via
PATHWORKS), DECprint Supervisor enhanced software (DCPS V1.7) offers powerful PostScript
printing. DCPS supports many applications and printers from multiple vendors. DCPS automatically detects
multiple printer languages and translates them to PostScript. DCPS also increases desktop printer control,
adds sophisticated output features, and promotes greater user productivity.
High-performance printing
The LN32 printer brings speed, advanced document-handling capabilities, and standard Ethernet
10/100BaseT and 10Base2 network connectivity to busy workgroups and departments. The LN32 printer's
optional duplexing capabilities, varied media support, and network management tools deliver additional
convenience, further enhancing the printer’s value to users and the overall network environment. For
graphic arts, desktop publishing, and prepress users, the LN32 printer offers maximum flexibility in page
layout and design. It accepts media ranging from postcard size to 11 x 17 inches, and also allows users to
print edge-to-edge on ledger, A3, and 11 x 17 inch page sizes. And with image enhancement technology
that delivers up to 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution, the LN32 printer produces output with saturated blacks, crisp
edges, and finely detailed halftones.
The standard LN32 model is based on a MIPS 5000 RISC processor operating at 133 MHz and is networkready with 10/100BaseT and 10/Base2 supporting TCP/IP, Novell NetWare, and LAT protocols. It features
32 MB RAM, which is user-configurable and expandable via two controller SIMM slots to a total of 96
MB. A second model includes duplex capability, a 2500 sheet input feeder, and a 2000 sheet
finisher/stapler. An optional 8 MB flash SIMM is available for storing fonts and forms.
Advanced controller architecture
At the heart of the LN32 is the controller architecture, which allows faster print speeds, higher resolution,
cross-platform migration, and open access to evolving multi-functional document handling technology. The
controller architecture has been specifically designed and developed to easily enable future printer
technology enhancements and migration across printer platforms. As new applications emerge, such as
print-on-demand and multi-function printing (MFP) capabilities, the controller architecture is designed to
grow with application requirements, extending the life of the printer. Enhanced efficiency of the processor
and memory allows the controller architecture to maximize printer resources by performing multiple
processes at the same time.
Remote Control Print Management Software
The LN32 Laser Printer includes Compaq Remote Control Print Management Software, a graphical tool
that allows system and network administrators to monitor and manage not only the LN32, but all SNMP
printers across a TCP/IP network. This includes the ability to monitor printer activity, change printer
settings, perform firmware upgrades, control configurations and log errors. With instant access to printer
information from a central location, the administrator can solve problems quickly from the desktop, without
visiting every single printer.
Web-based user management
The LN32 printer also allows Web-based configuration and printing. Because every printer can have its
own address on the World Wide Web, users can find printers on the network, track status of the printer and
print jobs, and check consumable levels.
Printer languages
The LN32 printer includes PCL5e and Adobe PostScript 3 for industry-standard application compatibility.
Adobe PostScript 3 provides increased font capacity, graphic definition, and precise representation of
complex images. Its smooth shading command increases processing speed up to six times, and it produces
superior blends with no banding.
Versatile printing options
The LN32 printer can print on letter, legal, and ledger sizes, plus A3, A4, A5, B4, B5, 8.5 x 13-inch, 11 x
17-inch, statement, universal, and executive formats. The LN32 printer also handles DL, C5, Com 10, and
Monarch envelopes. The base printer comes with two 500-sheet trays and a 50-sheet bypass feeder. An
optional high-capacity feeder acts as a stand for the printer and adds one 500-sheet tray and two 1000-sheet
trays. An optional envelope feeder can handle 100 envelopes. The trays can accommodate a variety of
stocks and sizes -- from half-page size to 11 x 17 inches.
The standard output bin automatically collates and offsets up to 500 pages. An optional finisher/stapler
holds 2000 additional sheets in three bins and can staple up to 50 sheets. A mailbox option on top of the
printer has 10 bins, each of which can hold 100 sheets, and can be used to collate multiple copies or
separate jobs. The multi-level toner saver mode allows users to save on toner usage while maintaining
acceptable print quality.
