Brief outline of how the work is to be done (i.e. sequence/method):
Prior to commencement of work all Martin & Gerard (Electrical Contractors) Ltd’s site
operatives will be inducted by the Site Manager for Broadstone Group, on the site
procedures and safety issues applicable to the work activity and will sign the section at
the end of this form to indicate that they have read and understood the risk assessment
and method statement. All operatives will have the required PPE i.e. safety boots, hi
visibility vests, safety helmets, gloves, goggles, overalls etc. which will be worn at all
times or as dictated by the work activity.
Generally, all of our work is manual, carried out by hand with the aid of hand held
portable tools, both manually operated and electrically powered. All our operatives are
fully trained Electricians and are well aware of the need for good and safe methods of
work and we endeavour to maintain safe and tidy working areas so as not to present any
risks to others.
The new electrical installations will follow the following procedures:
1st Fixing:
The majority of the wiring will be laid over and clipped to the tops of the ceiling joists,
operatives reaching the working level from platform steps (refer to risk assessment) and
prior to the ceiling boards being fitted and plastering carried out, the cables will then be
fed down the stud walls and/or partitions drilling holes using either a battery operated
and/or a 110volt powered drill to drill the timber studs and noggins as required in order to
feed the cabling to the required position of the socket outlet and/or light switch.
Note: there maybe instances where holes need to be drilled in the brickwork and/or floor
slab to allow for cables to be passed to the outside.
2nd Fixing:
Once all the cables have been pulled in to the required positions and locations the back
boxes for the socket outlets and light switches will be fixed to the relevant timber stud
and/or noggin and the cables fed in and ends stripped and attached to the face plate of
the relevant fitting.
Once others have over boarded the ceilings and plastering works have been completed
the ceiling roses will be fixed to the ceiling with screws into the ceiling joists above, again
the cables will be fed in and ends stripped and attached to the fitting, then lighting cable
dropped from the fitting with the attached bulb holder.
Testing:
MARTIN & GERARD (ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS) LTD
All the wiring and fitting of the relevant installations will be carried out whilst the circuits
are “dead” and will only be made “live” to carry out the required testing and
commissioning so that it conforms to the 17th Edition national standard IEE Wiring
Regulations (BS 7671).
Completion of works and waste disposal:
At completion of our works our operatives will ensure that their work activity area is left
clear by placing all waste into the appropriately marked skips provided by Broadstone
Group i.e. plastic wrappings and cardboard packaging etc.
We will remove from site all offcutts of electrical cable and any faulty fluorescent light
fittings, both of these items will be returned to the company premises and from there
