SPANISH 2 AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT “Había una vez...” CHS 2009-2010 The main goal for you this year is to use everything you have learned to create, tell and narrate a story in Spanish. The total worth of the Spanish 2 Authentic Assessment is 206 points. The grade for the project will be divided into several parts with the final product being worth 80 points. As with any long-term project, it is important that you follow the calendar and meet the established deadlines. All work must be handed in by the due date and the grade for that work will be incorporated into your final grade for the project. BENCHMARKS FOR THE FINAL PROJECT PART 1: (38 pts) Due date: Mid-October For the first part of the project, you are going to interview a classmate and prepare a visual and oral biography of that classmate. PART 2: (44 pts) Due Date: Mid-January For the second part of the project, you must choose a Spanish-speaking country. Prepare a power-point presentation of at least ten slides in which you do the following: Describe the country’s location. Provide a brief overview of the country’s history. Describe the economic basis of the country. Find three holidays or traditions that are celebrated in the country. Discuss the people of the country. What religion do they practice? What do they do for a living? What do they do in their free time? Do they have large/small families? Choose a celebrity, athlete, artist, or musician from this country. Tell us about this person. What kind of food is this country known for? Give examples of the food that is eaten there. You can even provide a recipe. If you were planning a trip to this country, where would you visit and why? PART 3: (44 pts) Due Date: Mid-April For the third part of this project, you will write a composition of at least 250 words in which you describe a favorite vacation that you have taken. Make sure that you include the preterite and the imperfect tenses. Describe aspects of your vacation (imperfect) and tell us what you did on your trip (preterite). FINAL PROJECT: (80 pts) Due date: Mid-May After combining all of the skills you have acquired from class this year and the first three parts of the Authentic Assessment, you will be ready to write and present a “cuento” or fairy tale in Spanish. The fairy tale will be written and illustrated in book form and read to the class during the week of final assessments. When writing your fairy tale, please be sure to create a character that lives in one of the countries that we have studied this year and also make sure to include cultural aspects that we have discussed in class. Lastly, when writing and editing your book, be sure to use and revise all grammatical aspects that we have covered this year.
