About the Albany

The Albany, in the heart of Deptford, is a vibrant performing arts venue, with a strong focus on working with diverse, local communities. Our mission is to provide:

The organisation has grown considerably over the last three years with turnover doubling to

£2.6million in 2015/16, and the staff team growing to 53 full and part time roles. The Albany is a registered charity and operates a social enterprise business model generating over 50% of its turnover from earned income. It is also grateful for the consistent support of the London

Borough of Lewisham and the Arts Council England.

During the last year over 180,000 people visited the Albany and used its facilities, including audiences of 40,000 at over 400 events. Not including its use of outdoor spaces and other sites, the Albany has four performance spaces, and its year-round programme encompasses music, theatre, outdoor arts and spoken word as well as an array of learning, participatory and community-based projects. Our other facilities include rehearsal and meeting rooms for hire, office space for 26 resident companies and a catering operation across three sites.

The Albany also manages community and performance spaces at Deptford Lounge and

Canada Water Culture Space on behalf of Lewisham and Southwark Councils, including the

150-seat studio theatre at Canada Water. The combined footfall across all three buildings is now in excess of a million a year.

About Deptford Lounge

Deptford Lounge is Lewisham Council’s award-winning building complex and civic space in the heart of De ptford. It’s managed by the Albany - South-East London’s leading arts centre.

Deptford Lounge opened in 2012. Facilities include a library service, Tidemill primary school, sports and leisure facilities, health and wellbeing services, community, rehearsal and performance spaces (including the outdoor performance/arts capacity of Giffin Square), a

Council Access Point and café. The meeting rooms include seven flexible training rooms and two ICT rooms. Creative programme highlights to date at Deptford Lounge include seasonal

‘firework’ family days, regular film nights, site-specific theatre productions, dance performances, visual art exhibitions, improvisational and pop up shows, open mic poetry and acoustic music, mindfulness festivals and rooftop socials. www.deptfordlounge.org.uk

About Hothouse

Hothouse is a 16-month long artist-led development project for and at Deptford Lounge, supported by Arts Council England. Co-produced by the Albany and Lewisham Cou ncil’s library service, the project will establish a high-profile resident artistic company to co-create a programme of events and participatory arts activities with visitors, local artists and resident groups. The programme will shape and enhance the role Deptford Lounge can play as a key cultural resource now and for future generations.

Hothouse will build on the current programme of activity and the creativity already flourishing at

Deptford Lounge, by deepening involvement of local communities and residents in co-creating the future programme. It will inspire new work, reach and draw in new audiences, and use currently underutilised spaces in and around the Deptford Lounge complex.

Strands of work will aim to engage specific groups and communities including:

Young people aged 10 to 19 years

 North Lewisham’s Vietnamese community

Older people (over 60s)

Local artists and creative groups

Lewisham Council, Library Service and Deptford Lounge staff teams

Regular Deptford Lounge building users/residents

The lead artist for Hothouse is Bristol-based collective Uninvited Guests, and current associate artists are Bernadette Russell/White Rabbit and Trikhon Theatre Company. Additional creatives will join the project as it develops, including a third associate artist and project evaluator.

Main objectives of the role

The Hothouse Project Manager will provide overall coordination of, and day to day leadership for, the successful delivery of the Hothouse project, including final evaluation and reporting to funders and partners. Working closely with lead and associate artists, Albany staff and key

Lewisham Council and library service staff, they will act as creative producer for all Hothouse events, community participation and related activities at the Deptford Lounge.

Main duties

Overall project management and day to day leadership of the Hothouse project, ensuring delivery of key milestones and outcomes defined in the project plan and original agreed project grant application

Act as main point of contact and supporting the work of the Hothouse creative team of artists and all other personnel associated with the Hothouse Project

Coordinate artist development activity and produce the work of Hothouse lead and associate artists, and collaborating artists and companies

Develop and lead implementation of the community engagement and volunteer element of the project

Leading an external project evaluator, manage the delivery of effective monitoring and evaluation for all creative events and artist development activity as part of the Hothouse programme

Coordinate and inform the project delivery team structure: creative production, project leadership and executive management

Write and contribute to/support fundraising applications and activities for the Hothouse project

Programme administration and filing; maintaining internal/external communications and information routes

Ensure the project fulfils the terms and conditions of ACE and any other project funders, reporting back as required

Liaise with key staff across Marketing, Production, Bookings, Box Office, FOH and

Deptford Lounge Library teams to ensure the effective delivery of programmed events

Monitor and regularly report on event/programme expenditure, administrate invoices and follow up matters with the Finance team where necessary

Attend internal Production, Operations and Programming meetings, note-taking where required

General duties

Participate in the general activities and meetings of Deptford Lounge operational team where relevant/required

Support (through the project) the wider commercial and business ambitions of Deptford

Lounge

Maintain confidentiality at all times

Support the aims and objectives of the Albany and Deptford Lounge both internally and externally

Working actively withi n the Albany’s Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding, Environmental and Health and Safety Policies

Represent the project, the Albany and/or the Deptford Lounge at external meetings and events

Undertake any other duties reasonably requested by the executive management team
